Listener Q&A:
As compiled, edited and sometimes read by Brock, the Ben Greenfield Fitness Podcast “sidekick”.
Natural Remedies For Snoring
Ari asks: About 4 years ago he had his deviated flare septum fixed. The doctor also coblated the turbinates. The doc said he would likely need to have the coblated again. Immediately after the surgery, for about a year, he didn't snore at all and his sense of smell was great. Eventually he could feel them swelling up again and now days he snores a lot and had a terrible sense of smell. He has used xylitol spray and breathe right strips and they work well but are annoying. Do you have any advice on swollen turbanites or snoring?

–American Academy of Craniofacial Pain
–North American Association of Facial Orthotropics
Weight Training For Endurance Athletes
Joe asks: He is a weak cyclist who wants to build power quickly but doesn't want to spend hours riding in Zone 2. He uses intervals but is wondering if a tough, high rep squat routine would help with that (like the one we are doing from Dan John). He is also wondering if you are still doing the cold showers even while doing the Mass Gain Protocol.

Can D-Ribose Reverse Heart Disease?
Keith asks: He recently read a book about reversing heart disease by Dr. Sinatra. In it, the doctor recommends taking D-Ribose. Do you know how effective D-Ribose is for reversing heart disease? They recommend at least 5000/day.
How to Lose Weight With A Low Thyroid
Kim asks: She is about 80lbs overweight and is wondering if you have advice for someone with a thyroid condition to speed up weight loss? Are there any supplements that are safe to take when on synthroid?
Sanket asks: His wife has Hashimoto's thyroiditis and one of her alternative doctors is encouraging her to try a brain mapping exercise to reset the connections in her brain and help heal the Hashimoto's. He is wondering if this would work or if this is even a safe thing to go. Have you heard of this? Do you know what the risk is?

Ask Your Question

The. D-ribose discussion was interesting. Considering its cardiac applications and athletic use, do you think it would be beneficial for helping repair heart muscle damage from intense endurance efforts?
If that damage is due to hypoxia, then yes. But often the damage is also due to inflammation and catabolism. Which simply takes time, rest and a low inflammatory diet plus natural anti inflammatories like curcumin to help with.
Ben & Brock- Thanks for the great info. Ben you talked about loading with X2 Performance before an event. I normally cut out caffeine 2 weeks before a race. Thoughts? I have used X2 Performance during an Ironman and marathon and have set PR’s. The only odd thing is my heard rate was pretty low for both races. Overall IM heart rate was 135 (run portion was 144) overall time 9:45 and marathon race heart rate was also 144, time 3:14 (did not push real hard). For half marathons and Olympic distance triathlons my average hear rate is in the 160’s. Any thoughts would be great. Thanks.
X2Performance has pretty low amounts of caffeine. I've found the pros outweight the cons in this case, especially if you've cut out coffee, caffeinated tea, etc.
Lower HR can be one side effect of preferentially burning fats as a fuel, so you were probably experiencing that!
Hi Ben and Brock,
how can I download this one? :)
Use the "Download the MP3" link just above the player, under the main image. And no, you are not crazy – it wasn't there earlier.
