What I Discuss with Dr. Tyna Moore:
- Why I’m re-airing this conversation, where Tyna was ahead of the curve on GLP-1s, and the Alzheimer’s trials that found no significant reduction in disease progression after we recorded…00:56
- My week of injecting one-tenth of the standard semaglutide dose, why my blood sugar dropped into the 60s at night, and Tyna’s on-air verdict that even that dose was far too high for me…02:53
- Why she doses GLP-1s for appetite control, not appetite suppression, how they quiet “food noise,” and the two decades of research behind this approach…05:56
- What carrying apolipoprotein E4 (ApoE4, the variant that raises Alzheimer’s risk) may change about GLP-1 use, and why most people calling it “microdosing” are actually taking standard low doses…09:03
- Why GLP-1 is produced in the brain as well as the gut, what animal research suggests about nerve remyelination, and how it helps move glucose transporter 4 (GLUT4) to the cell membrane…13:11
- CaloCurb (use code BEN10 for 10% off), Pendulum (use code GREENFIELD for 20% off select products), and why a natural GLP-1 stimulator may not do much if your L-cells, the gut cells that release GLP-1, have stopped responding…17:03
- How to restore L-cells through diet, lifestyle, and hormone support, instead of assuming you’ll need to take a GLP-1 for life…24:52
- Gastroparesis (stomach paralysis), why a sludgy gallbladder can tip into pancreatitis on too high a dose, and the bile support she adds…29:18
- The thyroid cancer black box warning, the rodent study behind it, and the parallel she draws to The China Study…34:54
- The suicidality study that spread across social media, what the researchers actually measured, and why Tyna says the limitations matter more than the headlines…36:29
- Why biohackers reflexively distrust anything pharmaceutical, and the Sandra Kaufmann episode on drugs that can mimic the effects of sauna, cold exposure, and fasting…41:17
- Muscle loss, “Ozempic face,” and the open question she’s investigating about what GLP-1s do to fat-derived stem cells…42:52
- Why she won’t buy peptides from an online vendor, plus the surprising economic ripple effects of GLP-1 drugs, from airline fuel costs to joint replacements…51:55
- Where she sends people now that she’s stopped taking new patients, and The Menopause Rebellion, the community she built to carry this work forward…56:44
I’m re-airing this episode because almost everything Dr. Tyna Moore said about GLP-1s is still being misunderstood, and she was one of the earliest voices advocating for using these drugs at very low doses. When we recorded, the internet had largely decided GLP-1 agonists were terrible: muscle wasting, “Ozempic face,” suicidality, and more. Tyna’s take was very different, and much of what she discussed has held up surprisingly well. Not everything, though. The big Alzheimer’s trials, for example, found that GLP-1 treatment did not significantly slow disease progression.
I was the guinea pig for this one. The week before our interview, I injected one-tenth of the standard semaglutide dose, and Dr. Moore told me on air that even that was far too much for me. She was right. It took me three days to get through one porterhouse steak. You’ll hear what dosing for appetite control rather than appetite suppression actually looks like, why Tyna questions daily dosing, what that widely shared suicidality study actually measured, and how to protect muscle while using these drugs. I still take about 0.25 milligrams of retatrutide or tirzepatide about four times a month on travel days, and this conversation is a big reason why.
Dr. Tyna Moore has nearly thirty years in the medical field and is an expert in holistic regenerative medicine and resilient metabolic health. She is licensed as both a naturopathic physician and a chiropractor, holding degrees from the National University of Natural Medicine and the University of Western States, and she draws on both traditional and alternative science to help people heal root causes rather than treat symptoms. She’s known for her fierce and open-minded exploration of semaglutide as a longevity tool, champions medical autonomy and individual accountability, and hosts The Dr. Tyna Show. Her cornerstone recommendations for every patient and listener are weightlifting and sunshine. She lives in Oregon with her husband and daughter. She has since replaced her GLP-1 course with The Menopause Rebellion, an interactive education community for Gen X women covering hormones, metabolism, muscle building, GLP-1s, and peptides, built around a 90-day foundational blueprint, strength training programming, and live calls with her every week.
