Last month, I had the pleasure of visiting Kauai, Hawaii and hanging out with a few of the coolest couples on the face of the planet. One such couple was big-wave surfer Laird Hamilton and his wife, volleyball Olympian and fitness celebrity Gabby Reece. You can listen to my podcast interview with them here.

Another couple was James Sol Radina and Dr. Somer Nicole, who you get to meet in this podcast episode.

Dr. Somer Nicole is a Doctor of Physical Therapy and specializes in CranioSacral Therapy, SomatoEmotional Release and is a Reiki Master/Teacher. She has teaches alignment-based Hatha Yoga and Kundalini Yoga, has been teaching Yoga since 2002 and travels internationally for workshops and retreats. She also creates personalized Yoga videos for clients, lives in Kauai and has created an online platform for Yoga, Meditation and holistic living you can access at www.YogaDoctors.TV.

James Sol Radina, has been a podcast guest before in a special episode on CBD.     But back to basics. Personally, I’ve found psilocybin mushrooms to be incredible psychiatric aids when taken in a relaxed set and setting. They have counterintuitively helped me get out of a severe drug addiction, and to this day i periodically go back to them whenever I feel I need an introspective evaluation on my life. That said, psilocybin is powerful medicine, and should be treated with respect. Any underlying emotions or repressed memories may be brought out during a trip, while you are in a vulnerable state. This has proven to be a very positive thing for myself, though sometimes not exactly what one would consider a “fun” experience. Mushrooms are to me a potentiator of life, be it the highs or the lows. Loving the show Ben, keep it up!

    Not for the fledgling psychonaut, but naturally sourced monoamine oxidase inhibitors have a profound effect on your brains breakdown of psilocin. Syrian Rue, passionflower, even chocolate, to name a few. Though their effects are far shorter term than there pharmaceutical counterparts, keeping an eye on your diet (i.e. tyramine rich foods) is still recommended, in my opinion. Again, not something to play with unless you’re fairly well experienced with psychedelics already.

    fyi, the lemon juice converts the psilocybin into psilocin which is the actual active component. It allows for a less nausea filled experience as well as for a quicker come up as the lemon is doing the heavy lifting that your body normally has to do if taken the normal way.

    Hi Ben.. I’m interested in the use of CBD for lowering inflammation throughout the body. But I’m also concerned about recent warnings issued by the FDA to companies selling this as a supplement. According to FDA.. This is still a class one drug therefore not legal in every state. Thoughts ?

    Hey Ben. Great show. I just found your podcast and have been tearing through the episodes. You’re sharing some thought provoking information.

    The “Why James does oil pulling” part of the podcast caught most of my attention because my girl friend was just recently told by a dentist that she needed a root canal. I’d love it if you could expand on this subject. I’d really appreciate any links and notes about the subject of oral health… especially as it relates to healing decaying teeth.

    Hey Ben,

    You mentioned your children’s remineralization program. Can you provide any specifics? I’m curious, as I am looking to strengthen my own teeth after experiencing some enamel erosion. I believe this is due to some bacterial imbalance. Planning to see a gastroenterologist this week. I recently started using some oil of oregano to assist in killing the bacteria. Appreciate any advice!

    Coconut oil pulling is 100% bunk. There is zero science behind it.

    There was way too much woo-woo in this episode.

    But there were also some points that were pure gold. Those points were too few and too far between.

      If Oil Pulling works for me and others, then Results are Evidence that it works. You need to do 20 minutes every night before bed. If you disregard all the evidence in your life and wait for sponsored science you will have a mouth full of Mercury that may lead to Metal Toxicity which leads to Parasites; just ask Ian Clark.

      Clean up your Mouth and your words will inspire!

    When you say that crickets are 20x more sustainable than other proteins, what does that mean ? How do you measure “sustainability” ?

      Couldn’t there just be a better food-source out there for our protein-bar crickets? The article pointed out one thing really clearly: you can adjust the amount of protein accumulated in a cricket by adjusting it’s food source. There’s likely a sustainable protein mix out there that will outproduce the sources these scientists used in their study.

    Fantastic episode! My older brother spent 9 years active duty in the Army and suffered from PTSD, along with having a drinking problem. When he got out in 2012 we moved in together and slowly started experimenting with psilocybin mushrooms. He has since become a completely different person for the better. He is more open, friendly, caring, and has cut drinking out almost completely! It has helped change my life in extraordinary ways as well. Thanks for shedding some light on these topics so that others can learn more about these incredible medicines!
