New Discoveries Of The Week: Cool New Things I'm Trying, Books I'm Reading, And More!
Best. Fish. Ever.
Lately, I've been trying my hand at making sashimi and fish collars with some pretty decent sushi-grade salmon and kanpachi. (For those who have never had it, kanpachi is an amazingly rich and creamy fish, but it has a good firm texture for slicing/prepping.) You can read more about kanpachi on the Seatopia website here.
For the sashimi, I thin-sliced the kanpachi, then dressed it up with a touch of lemon, sea salt, and spicy mayo and served over a bed of sushi rice with chives. I also broiled several kanpachi and salmon collars (this is also super simple). I cleaned and dried the collars, drizzled with melted ghee, then placed skin side down on the broiler for six minutes, and flipped for another six minutes. I served these with dill, sea salt, and lemon juice. A few days later, I made my family melt-in-your-mouth-good poke bowls by using a similar recipe, but made with liquid aminos, nori wraps, and sushi rice.
Anybody else out there mess around with cool “raw fish” recipes? I think I'm becoming just as big a fan of sushi as I am steak (and yeah, I do often shoot some oregano oil down the hatch afterward to nuke any potential parasites).
My Newest Smoothie Superfood: Sea Moss
I'm always on the lookout for low-calorie, low-carb, tummy-friendly options to more starchy sides such as mashed potatoes or rice. Akasha Superfoods Sea Moss Gel is my latest such discovery. This sea moss is organic and wildcrafted from the coast of St. Lucia. Sea moss is one of the most powerful, mineral-dense superfoods on the entire planet. It contains 92 out of the 102 minerals that your body needs and has anti-bacterial and anti-viral properties. Additionally, sea moss promotes a healthy thyroid, improves metabolism, promotes great digestion, eliminates excessive mucus in the body, supports the immune system, and increases energy.
Akasha Superfoods never uses fillers, bleach, GMO ingredients, fluoride, pesticides, or additives. Their sea moss is 100% organic, blended with only spring water, and dried by the sun.
To use, you can add 1-2 tablespoons of sea moss gel to your favorite beverage daily. It's great in smoothies, iced lattes, coconut yogurt bowls, or mashed with avocado for avocado toast! My favorite use of late is to simply thicken up a smoothie by putting a dollop of it in my blender along with my smoothie ingredients, and I also like it as a low-calorie alternative to mayo, in which case I just dress it up with a bit of salt, pepper, and cayenne for added spicy kick. This stuff is a great healthy pantry ingredient, and potent weight loss tool too.

::: Save More Than 50% On Chaga, Lion's Mane, & Other Elixers :::
Known to some as “The King of Mushrooms,” Chaga (which you can see me scraping off of a tree in the photo to the right) has been an important part of Nordic folk medicine and healthcare for hundreds of years. This functional mushroom is loaded with antioxidant properties to support your immune system and overall wellbeing.
Lion's Mane, another functional mushroom, can be thought of as your brain’s best friend. In fact, it actually looks like clusters of axons and dendrites (how your neurons communicate with one another) when you see it in the wild. To put it very simply, Lion's Mane allows you to be “on point” mentally for any task that comes your way.
So, where can you get this stuff? Four Sigmatic.

I don't need to tell you how important having a strong immune system is right now, but what you may not know is that two of the most studied nutrients for immune health are simply Vitamin C and Zinc. It may sound super basic, but these two nutrients are essential when it comes to proper immune system function, are safe for long-term use, science-backed, and very affordable.
Kion has put your Vitamin C and Zinc in the perfect ratio so there’s no guesswork on dosage (I’ve been taking 2 caps each morning at home with my morning baking soda in water, then 6 caps when I travel). When taken regularly, Kion Immune can support a healthy immune system and promote proper function of immune cells.*
