New Discoveries Of The Week: Cool New Things I'm Trying, Books I'm Reading, And More!

A Good Way To Train For Full Body Performance & Athleticism

I’m proud to have officially passed my Russian Kettlebell Certification (RKC). I couldn't have done it without the help of my good bud @coachjoedi, who was a guest on multiple podcast episodes, including:

You can join Joe and me at the luxury Runga retreat this fall if you want to learn from the master himself, but in the meantime, here's a sample of just one of the many workouts Joe supplied me with for training:

Complete 4 Rounds of a 3-minute Circuit + 3-minute Assault AirBike. Rest 30s between exercises. Circuit = 6x 24kg KB Snatch, 3 Goblet Squat, 2 Hand-Release Push-Ups, switch sides on the Snatch each set. Work non-stop for 3-minutes. Maintain consistent calorie burn each round on the Assault Airbike. Then move into:

Ascending Breathing Ladder 32kg 2-hand swings (1 Swing, 1 Breath, 2 Swings, 2 Breaths, 3 Swings, 3 Breaths, to failure.)

Joe’s training worked like gangbusters. Here’s a video sample of what my kettlebell snatch test looked like (I needed to do 100 24kg KB snatches in 5 minutes, and I squeezed in 115):

If you want to sign up for an RKC cert yourself, you can click here. And if you want to join Joe and me at the coming luxury Runga retreat this fall, where you’ll learn breathwork, cold thermogenesis, kettlebell training, meditation and much more while eating incredible organic meals, you can apply here.

Canned, Done-For-You Hydrogen Rich Water With An Extra Nitric Oxide Boost

I’ve talked plenty about hydrogen water, most notably in my extremely popular water podcasts with Tyler LeBaron and Robert Slovak. While the mitochondrial support, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory benefits of drinking water rich in hydrogen are now well-known and very well-researched (just go to the website for the non-profit Molecular Hydrogen Foundation to see what I mean), many people cannot afford a spendy at-home hydrogen water generator, or just don’t get a high enough hydrogen concentration out of the tablets.

I recently began drinking the “Hydroshot” canned hydrogen water beverage—which is a very convenient (and although zero-calorie, quite tasty option to get your daily fix of hydrogen)—and have been very happy with the effects, particularly when I take a dose pre-workout earlier in the day, then a dose pre-dinner/pre-bed later in the day. (It appears the best hydrogen dosing based on circadian rhythm is indeed morning and evening.)

These cans come jam-packed with not only hydrogen, but also added supplements that can increase nitric oxide production, blood flow, and cognitive function—most notably L-Citrulline, which acts kind of like liquid Viagra for your whole body, and Sustamine, which is a unique dipeptide that combines the amino acids L-Glutamine and L-Alanyl through a patented fermentation method that creates a unique dipeptide more easily absorbed by the body than complex protein molecules. The nitric oxide and hydrogen boosts alone are well worth it, as these have also been shown in research literature to have some impressive anti-viral and anti-inflammatory properties. Interestingly, a research article was just published on H2 and nitric oxide for viruses and other conditions.

Although Hydroshot has many flavors (including a CBD blend), I recommend Lemon Lime, which is calorie-free with no artificial sweeteners and an incredible daily energy boost. As you can see, the uses for hydrogen water are many, and you can get this stuff I’ve been drinking here, and use code BEN for a 10% discount.

How To Ground/Earth Your Existing Regular, Tennis, Or Running Shoes

If you listened to my earthing and grounding podcast with Clint Ober, then you already know of the powerful mitochondria and inflammation-reducing benefits of being outside barefoot, wearing earthing or grounding shoes or sandals, or using earthing and grounding deskmats and sleepmats.

But let’s just say you already have a suite of shoes that have rubber soles or other protection that completely limits your ability to stay grounded, or you don’t like the admittedly subpar style of many earthing and grounding shoes. Turns out you can turn *any* shoe into an earthed/grounded shoe with the addition of a simple strap. Clint Ober recently turned me on to “Erthe” straps, which I noticed when World No. 1 tennis player, Novak Djokovic was sporting them on his tennis shoes in a recent match. I grabbed a pair and outfitted them to one of my pairs of tennis shoes and…voila! I was instantly earthed with the special conductive material in these straps. They are super easy to add to any shoe. You just peel off the adhesive and slap them on.

They’ve been shown to decrease lactic acid levels, creatine kinase levels, and inflammation while simultaneously increasing countermovement jump performance and recovery time. This is a cool and easy hack for your existing wardrobe, and you can get them here for less than 20 bucks. And yes, I've been wearing them during our family tennis sessions. ;)

Special Announcements:

::: Save 10% On The Blue Blockers I Use For More Restorative, Deep Sleep :::

Weakened immunity, slowed metabolism, weight gain, increased rate of chronic disease, low energy, and decreased overall health are just some of the consequences of not getting a good night's sleep.

And getting deep, quality sleep is harder than ever nowadays because of blue light from modern LED, fluorescent lights, and screens. This blue light disrupts your circadian rhythm, causing increased production of stress hormones like cortisol and the suppression of melatonin at night.

So every night (and morning to simulate sunrise!) I put on a pair of Ra Optics blue-light-blocking glasses to block the specific wavelengths that cause sleep disruption, mitochondrial disruption (inflammation), and all the health issues associated with these issues.

Get your Ra Optics blue blockers here with code: BEN10 here to save 10%.
