New Discoveries Of The Week: Cool New Things I'm Trying, Books I'm Reading, And More!

My Morning Routine, Simplified.

Someone recently asked me for my morning routine. Here is it, in a nutshell. I hope you find it helpful, and feel free to leave your questions or your own morning routine in the comments section of this roundup!

  1. Wake and complete gratitude journaling while lying in bed. Do not take phone out of airplane mode.
  2. After journaling, go to the kitchen and drink 30 ounces of water from a glass mason jar. Into the water, place two packets or vials of Quinton hypertonic minerals OR a teaspoon of good salt, along with 1 teaspoon of baking soda and 2 hydrogen tablets.
  3. Drink, then proceed outdoors into the sunshine in bare feet wearing as little as possible. Complete 10-15 minutes of stretching, foam rolling, and deep tissue work—specifically focusing on anything that feels tight or painful. During this time, feel free to listen to encouraging, spiritually enhancing music, or an audiobook or podcast, but continue to keep phone in airplane mode.
  4. Upon finishing stretching and breathwork, use restroom, then, if time permits, proceed to 20-30 minute sunshine walk or sauna (hot) and ice (cold) therapy (otherwise can save hot and cold for later in the day).

Special Announcements:

::: Save 10% On Molecular Hydrogen With Chromium :::

Robert Slovak, the father of reverse osmosis, and I recently took a deep dive into all things molecular hydrogen on my podcast. The smallest molecule in the universe, molecular hydrogen has superior tissue diffusion abilities and can travel into sub-cellular tissues to have a much greater systemic effect compared to other products. Research has shown that boosting hydrogen concentrations can support immunity, mitochondrial health, athletic performance, recovery, manage oxidation, and much more.

Pioneers in developing hydrogen tablets a decade ago, Robert’s team has now created the first product to combine molecular hydrogen with chromax chromium (backed by over 35 clinical studies) to optimize metabolic health.

::: Save 10% On An Exciting New Tool That Uses Your DNA To Give You Personalized Health Recommendations :::

After my podcast with Joe Cohen, founder and CEO of SelfDecode, I received lots of questions on his exciting new genetic analysis tool.

As you know, I’m a huge data geek, and my genetics are no exception. Sure, getting your genetic data is valuable, but so far the tools used for analyzing DNA have lacked practical application. In other words, “What exactly does one do with this data?”

With SelfDecode, in less than 30 minutes I was reading my first personalized health report on how my genes relate to my longevity, including actionable, easy to understand recommendations made just for me.

SelfDecode provides over 14 personalized reports, including mood, cognitive function, sleep, and even cardiovascular health. They even have an individualized health blog that tailors their daily posts to your DNA. (It’s kind of crazy, and I still can’t figure out how they pulled it off.)

As for accuracy: Every recommendation is cited so I could go deeper into the studies underlying their reports. They use multiple genes and SNPs to determine your health risks (Polygenic Risk Score), and they use more SNPs than any other DNA analysis tool…

  1. Sally says:

I keep it gentle in the mornings and just do fastercise before eating. I then do physical work for 2-3 hours (gardening). I stretch in the afternoon when my body is looser with 6-12 rounds of sun salutations. 5 minutes bouncing on re-bounder which is great for lymph flow. Maybe 4 minutes (once or twice a day) tabata exercise. I don’t pressure myself into doing long workouts. I keep it short and simple so that it seamlessly blends with my day, and it works beautifully for me. I’m 62 and in great health. Keep up the good work Ben.

  2. Lester says:

3 grams of sodium in the morning. Wow! How much sodium do you use in a typical 24 hours?

  3. Jane Donadio says:

I too begin my day with pre- dawn journaling. And I’m stunned by how peaceful it is at that hour and how much I LOVE this relatively new ritual of mine. It REALLY sets a tone for the whole day.

  4. Lee Roe says:

Ben, I have been searching for a lot of things, fitness, better health, cleaner living, less dependence on things that get me through the troubles of life. But what I realized just, now, it is the spiritual part of my life…that needs improvement. Thank You, for the words today. Lee

  5. BEC says:

Curious if you have thoughts are recovery from a rattlesnake bite (western diamond back) – such as helpful supplements, etc. Was bit Tuesday evening in foot by a baby. Training for 70.3 race soon (probably will drop out of Lubbock and may sign up for Boulder). Obviously doing what recommended by doctor – antivenum then just Aleve and rest / elevation. Swelling is decreasing daily. Surprised I can’t find much on the subject on Google.

  6. Joe P says:

So cool to see your morning routine post! After seeing a YouTube video on this subject a couple weeks ago, I actually started making myself a checklist for the morning and it’s been super helpful. Mine (so far) looks like this:

    Stay Off Phone

    Name 3 Things Grateful For

1 or more of: Workout/Stretch/Foam Roll (Can even be just 5 minutes if need be)

Drink At Least 1 Full Glass of Water Before any coffee

Hot Shower followed by Cold Shower

    Meditate for 10 minutes

Drink Coffee and get to it!

Appreciate all of your content Ben, be well!

    1. Joe P says:

PS- If you have any constructive feedback on my routine I’d love to hear it. Always a work in progress

    2. Nick says:

You could use a small pinch of mineral-rich salt in your morning water. Hydrates you more effectively.
