Listener Q&A:

Should You Get Rid Of Your Smart Meter?…45:12

Barbara asks: My apartment building, which is possibly near a fault line, has recently installed smart meters. These smart meters have really affected my quality of sleep and I've begun having muscle spasms since they were installed. There are gas meters in each apartment and a bank of electric meters in the basement. I am considering the Acoustimeter and/or PF-5 to check for dirty electricity in my apartment, and would like to know your thoughts.

How To Cool Your Body During Sleep…1:18:08

Tim asks: I've been struggling with sleep issues for many years and have tried many things. At the moment, I'm looking at two devices: The Chilipad, which cools the body, and Ebb Sleep which cools the brain, particularly the pre-frontal cortex. I'm curious if you have an opinion on the efficacy of one over the other.

Ben, how much baking soda do you put in your drink each morning? I started occasionally using Patrick McKeown’s recipe of 1 tsp Baking soda with a Tbsp apple-cider vinegar. Is there a difference between these two methods?

  3. Johanna says:

So I started scanning through old medical journal articles from 1918 to 1920 where I found that American doctors, surrounded by death from the Spanish Influenza pandemic, did discover an easy way to mitigate the influenza virus. These American doctors went on to save thousands of lives of ill patients. (They were a rare breed—so many other doctors died from the Spanish flu.) With all the 1918 pandemic history books focusing on death (none on life), and since afterward all the R&D went into developing vaccines (since the medical industrial complex aspires money instead of intelligence), please consider these American doctors’ lost—yet very compelling—work (see my selected clips below).

With no ventilators, no vaccines, and no pharmaceuticals in 1918, these American doctors had no choice but to turn to basic cell biology. Although they obviously didn’t know at this time that what they were battling with was a virus, they did notice the acid production—when a virus invades a cell, it tricks the cell to lower the pH because it needs an acidic environment so it can begin to replicate. So then, they discovered that if the acidic environment of the cells is neutralized, the virus is unable to take over. One hundred years ago, without any Chloroquine to alkalize the pH, the doctors used baking soda. This alkalized the patients’ bodies and saved them from the Spanish flu.

Dr. Thomas C. Ely (Philadelphia), Journal of the American Medical Association, October 26, 1918, p. 1431

The baneful acids may be neutralized by harmless alkalis, and these seem to act almost specifically. I have uniformly employed, and always with good results, potassium citrate and sodium bicarbonate saturation by mouth, bowel, and skin. For the past three weeks in the present influenza epidemic, I have seen an average of 100 private patients daily. There have been all degrees of frequency and severity, and in some houses, as many as six patients. [. . .]

My very successful experience in this epidemic with the saturation of the system with harmless alkalis cannot be dismissed as accidental or unique. It seems to represent an important new medical fact or one apparently forgotten or generally overlooked. It is so simple and without any possible objection that I urge its immediate trial empirically.

Dr. Thomas C. Ely (Philadelphia) and Dr. Anstruther Davidson (Los Angeles), Journal of the American Medical Association, November 9, 1918, p. 1603

[T]this epidemic seems one of pneumonia rather than of influenza. . . . I do not believe that all these patients so near death could have recovered in an epidemic so fatal as that in Philadelphia without the basic treatment by the alkalis on the acidosis theory.
    —Thomas C Ely, MD, Philadelphia

The use of alkalis in colds is probably as old as the pyramids and is the common method employed by at least the older medical men. . . . Dr Ely is right, I think, in emphasizing the necessity of administering alkalis. The influenza bacillus does not flourish in an alkaline medium.
    —Anstruther Davidson, MD, Los Angeles

Dr. Thomas C. Ely (Philadelphia), naming also Dr. Thomas P. Andrews (New Mexico), New York Medical Journal, April 5, 1919, p. 573

It is an established fact that acidosis is a constant factor in all the infectious fevers. In the recent influenzal epidemic, the acidosis was particularly prominent and had much to do with its extraordinary fatality.

Dr. Thomas P Andrews, physician to a lumber camp in New Mexico, writes that he has treated over three hundred cases with only five deaths. He always used the alkaline treatment, and all of his cases were treated under most unfavorable circumstances as expressed by the quotation that he had no nurses except laborers and lumbermen, and at one time had seventeen sick patients in five beds. Such an experience is in striking contrast to the high mortality so often seen in refined urban practice in which alkalies were neglected.

In addition to the great number of influenza cases that were seen daily during the recent epidemic, I have treated twenty-six patients with pneumonia with well marked crises, over 100 cases of iobular pneumonia, five pregnant women, and eleven instances of severe intestinal infections. The large number of recoveries I attribute to the persistent use of early elimination and saturation of the system with alkaline bases.

Drs. David S. Hachen and Raphael Isaacs (Cincinnati), Journal of American Medical Association, Dec. 11, 1920, p. 1624

So-called influenza and influenzal bronchopneumonia are accompanied by a depletion in the blood ali reserve. . . . The alkali reserve when compared with the temperature serves as a prognostic sign and is a definite indication for the method of treatment. An alkali reserve of 46 or below (in spite of moderate alkali therapy by mouth) was found in conditions in which the prognosis was bad, from 46 to 52 when prognosis was doubtful, and 53 or above when the prognosis was good.

Dr. Leland S. Madden (Pleasantville, New Jersey), Journal of the Medical Society of New Jersey, May 1919, p. 160

Discouraging results in the treatment of influenza since the first of October 1918 have made many physicians feel at times their almost absolute helplessness in several types of the disease . . . The very marked beneficial results in these cases, which undoubtedly would have died without this treatment, make me report the same, hoping that I might hear from others who may have tried the same treatment and that others might obtain similar relief when in such condition.

    Dr. Thomas C. Ely (Philadelphia), Medical Record, August 16, 1919, p. 306 & October 18, 1919, 660

Reference was made to the teaching of physiology that if the alkaline reserves of the body have been withdrawn, the poison acids cannot be neutralized and that life cannot be preserved unless the bases sodium potassium and calcium are supplied. The explanation of the success of the elimination and alkaline treatment was therefore obvious.

Here is some more compelling evidence from history (A Friend in Need, Facts Worth Knowing about Arm & Hammer Baking Soda, as a proved medicinal agent, 1933, p. 14):

“In 1918 and 1919 while fighting the ‘Flu’ with the U. S. Public Health Service, it was brought to my attention that rarely who had been thoroughly alkalinized with bicarbonate of soda contracted the disease, and those who did contract it, if alkalinized early, would invariably have mild attacks.

I’m regards to your question on smart meters. What are your thoughts on Hedron Life Source’s Smart meter Cage?

  8. Jon Dunsmore says:

    Hi Ben,

    Very interesting episode.

    You talked about two devices to help with sleep;

    1) The ‘Chili Pad’

    2) The ‘Ebb Sleep’.

I wanted to let you and your listeners know about a third device which I have found extremely effective for deep and restful slumber.

    A little background first …

I have struggled with chronic insomnia my entire life.

    I have tried stacks of:

Melatonin, Magnesium, L-tryptophan and (occasionally) Valerian.

I have adopted all the best the sleep hygiene practices.

I have said ‘No’ several times to the doctor’s offer of ‘Ambien’ and other sleeping medications.

(I want to protect my frontal lobes.)

    Everything has had minimal effect.

My sleep amounted to a pitiful 2-3 hours of sleep per night.

    Then …

6 months ago I discovered a device called the ‘Alpha Stim’

    Are you familiar with it?

It works by Cranial Electrotherapy Stimulation (CES).

It is quite spendy, but I have to admit it’s 100% worth the investment.

The Alpha Stim device is very calming, relaxing and sedating.

… Like taking a benzo without the side effects.

The effects are cumulative, but they can also be felt relatively instantly if you have the device on a high power setting.

You can also customise the frequency the duration of treatment.

You can even set duration to run continuously … until the battery runs out!

    Typically around 10 – 12 hours.

I don’t know if your comment section will allow for any named products endorsments …

However, during this time of a global health crisis and uncertainty …

I thought I’d at least let you and your listeners know about this fantastic device.

    Keep up the great work!

    Jon (Scotland, UK)

I’m now getting a full 8 hours sleep each night.
