In the video above, I address the following question:

Is there a healthy way to cheat on your diet?

Are cheat meals unhealthy?

Will cheat meals make you fat?

Is there such a thing as healthy cheat meals?

What is my favorite cheat meal?

After you watch this video, tell me what your favorite cheat meal is in the comment section below (despite the appearances of the video, mine is chocolate, not nachos).

  1. Great video. A lot of people have their cheat meals but try to make it "healthy", like saying they will have pizza, but order it with light or no cheese and vegetables, thus not really satisfying that desire or craving and only delaying it, which could lead to overeating later. Do you think "healthy" versions of cheat meals are a good idea, or just to go all out every now and then?

    1. Chuck, I love healthy cheat meals. For example, I enjoy gluten free pizza with mozzerella cheese, sliced tomatoes, loaded with sausage, arugala and other goodies. Healthy, sure. But not as much of it as I eat for a cheat meal…

      1. I agree- I love them too. I actually make a pizza just like yours. But if its truly a healthy version of a cheat meal, would you agree that its then not really so much of a cheat meal, jut another healthfully prepared meal?

  2. Ben….

Thanks for the email. I ate a "cheat meal" which made me feel sluggish and lazy. Now I am going to go burn it off!!!

    Thanks for the inspiration.

  3. As an American woman living in Paris, France, and who loves to run half marathons, my cheat meal is a baguette sandwich made with jambon and fromage! The baguette could easily feed 2 or may 3 (if you weren't that hungry) people but I impress myself with how I can eat one and not feel stuffed. Oh, and btw, the French don't bother with mayo; they go straight for the butter- on about everything!
Love the podcast – and how you bring everything important forward!

  4. "Hot" Krispy Kreme doughnuts. Usually eat between 5 and 8, depending on how long I've put off the craving in the weeks/months before. Definitely falls in the 2nd category; 2 or 3 days after big races. I'd go as far as to say I push harder knowing I get my KK fix when I'm done!

    1. My favorite cheat meal after long, training day (usually Sundays after running 12+ miles) is egg rolls; I will eat between 4-5 of them!! My favorite cheat meal after a race where I feel I have done really well is the good old American cheeseburger with everything on it, french fries as the side and last but not least, a fair size piece of chocolate cake!!
