In this episode with Anjan Katta, you’ll get to discover the intricacies of light wavelengths, the adverse effects of modern screen flicker, and the revolutionary advent of flicker-free, blue light-free LED lighting using DC dimming—a technique that adjusts brightness by varying the direct current supplied to the backlight, thus eliminating flicker and reducing eye strain. Anjan’s groundbreaking work on reflective screens brings you closer to healthier and more natural screen interactions. We’ll also cover practical tips for managing light exposure, travel hacks for maintaining optimal lighting environments, the exciting future of health-driven technology, and much more!
Anjan Katta is the visionary founder behind Daylight Computer Co., a groundbreaking technology company building a new kind of computer that’s healthier and more humane. Daylight launched their first product—the world’s first blue-light-free computer—in May of this year, and within a month of launch, sold out all units.
Daylight’s launch unveiled the world of Anjan’s six-year-long quest to develop a calmer, more focused computer. This vision came out of his personal struggles with the physical and mental health impacts that modern computers had on him. Like many others, Anjan suffered from eye strain and disrupted sleep cycles, as well as worsening of ADHD symptoms from using modern computers.
Resolving to do something about this, Anjan committed to reading only from paper which meant he had to print everything he wanted to read from a computer screen. He soon missed the convenience of computers. He became more enthralled with e-ink, buying and testing every e-ink device on the market. Finding these products were too slow to function as helpful, productive tools, Anjan hacked e-ink devices. Yet, they were too slow and ineffective to serve more practical computing needs.
This journey led to Anjan innovating a screen technology specifically suited for eye health and circadian rhythm preservation. Additionally, Anjan developed a vision for an entire operating system that puts holistic health first. After developing his first prototype, Anjan navigated the challenges of bringing the device to production.
Through the long journey and the successful launch of Daylight’s first product, Anjan has received overwhelming feedback of the life-changing effect of his product and vision. Thousands resonate with Anjan’s belief in the potential for technology to enhance rather than detract from people’s well-being. Daylight’s goal is to offer alternative technology solutions that support your health, attention, freedom, and quest to live a more balanced life.
Tune in to discover how Anjan’s innovative technology can transform your screen experience and support a healthier, more balanced life. Don't miss out on these insights that could change the way you interact with your devices!

Until we have a Daylight PC, considering IPS-LCD with zero flicker and OLED monitors with DC dimming, would you recommend the higher contrast OLED with some flickering, or the flicker-free LCD with lower contrast that might strain the eyes?
P.S. Even with DC dimming, most OLEDs exhibit some form of high-frequency flickering. Higher flicker rates are preferable, as they are less noticeable even to sensitive individuals. Conversely, many LCD displays are flicker-free but may have lower viewing angles and poor contrast, compared to OLEDs, which can strain the eyes differently.
See a list of flicker and non-flicker LCD and OLEDS devices measured by Notebookcheck here:

Iris does actually modulate the flicker rate.
