Like others have mentioned, I’m really surprised (and annoyed) that Ben kept referring to REM sleep and deep sleep as if they are the same thing. They are very different and they have completely different functions. Ben is a smart guy and I enjoy the podcasts but he really hurts his credibility when he gets this basic thing confused. It also made the discussion about sleep temperature confusing because its not clear whether he’s talking about the effect or REM sleep or deep sleep or both.

    1. Well REM is technically the DEEPEST stage of sleep.

    Hey Ben,
Phenomenal episode I shared it with many of my friends and family who are fitness enthusiasts that use the practices and products you mention without much knowledge.

I was curious for a high-level athlete, would you recommend the performance package or premium package from WellnessFX for a blood test? Then for whichever is used how would you recommend still sending your results for further analysis at “promethas” ?(Probably butchered the spelling on that)

  3. Anthony Guastella says:

Hi Ben, in the past you said we only absorb 1.5 grams of creatine. Is this something we should spread through out the day?

  4. Charles says:

    Hi Ben,
Thank you for your recommendations on the whoop device. I’ve gone ahead and purchased one. regarding the Stratagene, are you able to upload the ancestry DNA report? And does it include a full protocol if there any of these enzymatic deficiencies?
    Thanks for the amazing podcast.

  5. Alex says:

Many of the latest podcasts, this one included, are not downloading fully. They download only a small portion of the podcast and then cut off. If you could look into that, it would be great, as I like to download and listen in airplane mode. Thanks.

    1. Wayne says:

I’m having the same issue. I download and listen while out walking and missing most of the shows now.

    2. Tim says:

Same here…very annoying. Have deleted and attempted 10x with no success.

  6. Mark Fowler says:

    Ben sir!

I listen to your latest podcast and you seem to think REM and deep sleep are the same things I think they are very different. My fitbit shows 3 states, rem, light and deep. I get plenty of rem, but not much deep. I am going to try slightly warmer as you recommend see what happens. I just set up a camera so i can see what happens to go on. Also trying creatine to see if that helps my deep sleep.

    Thanks for your work!

My two cents from having two wearables and an under-bed sleep tracker (weird, I know), I wouldn’t put much stake on the absolute value of sleep stages from any activity-based sleep tracker. All three of mine give totally different readings every single night. However, you can use a wearable to track relative trends in sleep stages.

      1. Rick says:

That’s good to know because I keep putting off getting the Oura Ring because I’m not convinced yet that the data is accurate.

And I agree with the other post that he keeps referring to REM and DEEP sleep as one in the same which it is not, His sidekick knows the difference but doesn’t correct him which is annoying.
