So you want to have your cake and eat it too.

Hmm…bad analogy. Cake (yes, even carrot cake) is probably not healthy food.

But how about real, authentic, healthy food? Do you want to have your fresh, darkly-colored, rich-tasting vegetables that give you that satisfying crunch and that instant feeling of re-vitalization, rather than opening the drawer of your refrigerator 3 days after you buy vegetables to find them as wilted, tasteless shadows of their former vegetable selves?

Say you don't have the budget to buy expensive organic food (e.g. the $4.99/lb cucumbers). But you do want to make sure you aren't consuming all those nasty pesticide and herbicide residues that are clutching to the skins of your precious veggies.

Problem is, healthy food coupons are few and far between. However, instead of selling your first-born child and buying the organic variety, you can try this simple, money-saving trick:

  • Fill a spray bottle with a vinegar/water mixture. Add one part vinegar to 3 parts water.
  • Spray an ample amount of the vinegar water mixture on the fruit and vegetables, preferably over a sink.
  • Rinse the fruit and vegetablesin water to remove pesticides, herbices, and bacteria.
  • If you really want to go gung-ho and totally clean your produce, proceed to toss the fruits and vegetables into a large bowl full of cold water and about a half cup of hydrogen peroxide, and let it sit for a couple minutes. Then take it out, scrub it down with a washcloth, rinse it in cold water, and toss it into the refrigerator. Or your mouth.

Easy, right?

Healthy food essential need for everyone. I thought prepackaged foods are good for you. It’s cheaper and healthier as compared to other food. You have to avoid junk food and spend that amount buy healthy food. I would like to suggest you buy in bulk from the online store where you can find an amazing deal and discounts.

  4. You don't need those new boots, don't have to wear pantyhose all the time (keep the unopened ones in the frig), you can skimp on makeup and buying shoes or clothes in general, you can get rid of the cellphone, cable, and you don't need all the extra programs for the pc or all that entertainment. You can cut down on using the oven and having your pc on. Pull the plug out of the outlet when appliances, tv, pc, etc. aren't in use.

Wow! I only used Hidrogen peroxide to get my hair brow, never to wash food! That't amazing, but the 3% solution! Here, (I live in Brazil) I use Sodium Hypochlorite (sorry, I dont know if you have this) , we can get it free when we go to the doctor's office. The results are the same or completely not? Thanks a lot, I really loved this tip! Nice week

    1. Depends on the % concentration of the sodium hypochlorite, since it's pretty corrosive stuff. As long as it's diluted, it's just formed from electrolysis of salt brine, so if you rinse it off, really not a big deal. It's approved for use on organic food too, check this out: http://news.csuchico.edu/2010/06/17/collaboration…
