In this weekly post, I share with you my most interesting discoveries of the week, including the latest news on the fronts of fitness, nutrition, health, wellness, biohacking, and anti-aging research. I also recap my upcoming events and special announcements so you can keep up with opportunities to learn, giveaways, discounts, and more!

My Latest Discoveries: New Things I'm Trying, The Latest Life Hacks, Books I'm Reading, And Much More!

Fatal Conveniences In Your Home & Environment (I Didn't Know About Many Of These!)

My friend and former podcast guest Darin Olien, who first joined me on the episode “How To Biohack Your Morning Routine, The Surprising Compounds That Destroy Stem Cells, The Tastiest Nut Butter On The Face Of The Planet & Much More!” and later for the episode “The Indiana Jones Of Superfoods: Stem Cells, Air-To-Water Machines, Coffeefruit & More With Darin Olien.” just published a fantastic title Fatal Conveniences.

As the name implies, it's about common items you use every day that might be toxifying your body way more than you think, and what to do about it.

A few of my highlights include:

  • Waxelene is a multi-purpose ointment you can find almost anywhere and it is 100% cruelty-free and has some pretty cool skin protective and nourishing/anti-inflammatory properties vs. spendy/hard-to-get options.
  • Chew on rosemary, spearmint, or peppermint leaves instead of microbiome-nuking mouthwash in the mouth for freshening.
  • Tampons are basically p*ssy cigarettes. Nasty stuff. Use organic-only, menstrual cups/reusable pads from companies like Nixit, Divacup, Cora, Tree Hugger, and New Moon, or period underwear from Thinx, Knix, or TomboyX.
  • Lipstick, eye makeup, and most anti-aging creams are bad news bears. Read the book for all his alternative options.
  • A new 2022 study in the journal Medicinsk Access demonstrably proves 5g can microwave our cells. First decent study I've seen cited on this.
  • Related to the point above, microwaves don't damage your food, but if they're plugged in constantly or used frequently, can damage your body.
  • Clothing that is stain-resistant, waterproof, or wrinkle-free tends to be loaded with toxins that get absorbed through the skin. Proceed with caution and try some of the alternatives in the book, including organic cotton only.
  • Most Air Conditioning units can create sick building syndrome and churn out toxins. Be careful with them. I use one called “AllerAir” for example, which is safe.
  • Switch to “anodized” aluminum if using aluminum foil, or simply food wraps like Earth Hero, Cedar, and Lily Bee.

You can get the book now by clicking here. I highly recommend it and my previous podcast with Darin here. Enjoy!

P.S. Darin is also known as the “Superfood Hunter” and so he also imports the craziest delicious nuts I've ever had called Barukas Nuts. Check 'em out here

Unleash Your Feet: My New Favorite Minimalist Shoe

As you might know, I have been an avid supporter of foot wellness and the barefoot or minimalist footwear movement since the idea of “barefoot running” became popular.

Foot comfort and health are vital for attaining optimal physical well-being. I talk about that here and here.

While there are more and more companies getting on board with minimalist footwear, I recently came across one that offers a unique take on it: Peluva – created by my friend and ancestral health icon Mark Sisson.

You might have seen me wearing this funky little shoe from time to time, as its distinct splayed-toe style is hard to miss. Peluva has several different styles and colors to choose from, appropriate for almost any occasion, from the gym to hiking, to the workplace, or even going out on the town. They've certainly earned a special place in my minimalist shoe collection.

The team at Peluva has reinvented minimalist footwear by combining innovative design that merges comfort, function, and style, enabling you to regain your innate movement and promote a stronger, healthier physique with each stride. This is especially important for my readers who may struggle with their feet in regard to pain and much-needed arch support.

After two years of prototyping, Peluva has built a dream shoe that delivers all three crucial criteria: comfort, function, and style. Their integrative design optimizes your movement to keep it natural, simple, and foundational—to let your feet be feet.

Mark and Kyle Sisson, the father-son co-founders of Peluva, have an extensive background in health and fitness. Some of you may recall that Mark has been a guest on my podcast episode, “The Keto Reset Diet: Reboot Your Metabolism in 21 Days and Burn Fat Forever.” The road to Peluva began almost 40 years ago when Mark began his transformation from an elite endurance athlete to a world-renowned health and fitness investigator.

Peluva shoes are a fantastic addition to any minimalist shoe enthusiast's collection. Give them a try and experience the innovative design and comfort that they bring to the table.

You can check out Peluva's shoes on their website right now and use code BENGREENFIELD for 15% off your order. Your feet will thank you later!

Product Of The Week

::: Unlock Your Metabolic Health With Levels :::

Monitoring your glucose levels is, hands down, one of the best ways to understand how your food and lifestyle choices are affecting your health.

I’ve personally discovered some pretty crazy things via my own blood glucose monitoring…

… like how cold showers are one of the best things to do before I go to a steakhouse…

…why green beans are actually bad for me but good for other people…

… how checking email the wrong way can make me metabolically “sicker”…

… and a whole lot more that I would never have known unless I actually had a peek inside my body‘s blood glucose levels.

See, you now know that poor glucose levels are one of the leading factors in many diseases including obesity, sexual dysfunction, diabetes, Alzheimer's, heart disease, stroke, and more.

However, the traditional route of pricking your finger with a tiny needle multiple times a day is not only uncomfortable and inconvenient, it also only gives you a small snapshot in time of your blood glucose—you're simply not getting a full picture of how your body is responding to sleep, exercise, or stress throughout the day.

That's where a company called Levels comes in.

Levels makes it effortless for me to understand in real-time whether the foods I’m eating or anything else I’m doing has a positive or negative effect on my health, energy, sleep, waistline, or anything else that is intimately related to blood sugar.

The Levels Membership provides unparalleled access to continuous glucose monitoring, at-home blood testing, and expert coaching to help members improve their health and metabolic fitness.

Levels also has an app that interprets your data for you, scores your meal and lifestyle choices, and allows you to run experiments across different inputs like diet, exercise, and recovery techniques. As a self-proclaimed tech geek, I appreciate that the Levels app goes way beyond most companion apps for continuous glucose monitors.

In the short term, I’m optimizing for energy levels during the day, mental clarity, and controlling my weight. In the long term, I’m considering the many chronic diseases that are directly linked to glucose control including diabetes, heart disease, and Alzheimer's.

Until I was a Levels member, I thought I understood my metabolic health pretty well. I definitely didn't expect steak and green beans to be on the list of foods that spike my blood sugar…but they were. That’s because your body's glucose response to food is highly individual, so there's no way to know until you test.

Heck, I hadn’t even discovered that if I do slow and easy breathing while checking emails versus giving myself “email apnea” by holding my breath while checking emails actually has a profound impact on my blood glucose levels and post-email-checking energy.

So…

…for a limited time, Levels is offering my audience two additional free months on your annual Levels Membership when you use my link here. Start measuring how food is affecting your health in real-time by checking out Levels today.
