Dr. Thomas Cowan's new book Cancer & The New Biology Of Water takes a groundbreaking look at the role of water in living organisms that ultimately brings us closer to answering the riddle of the etiology of—and therapy and treatment for—cancer.

When President Nixon launched the War on Cancer with the signing of the National Cancer Act of 1971 and the allocation of billions of research dollars, it was amidst a flurry of promises that a cure was within reach.

The research establishment was trumpeting the discovery of oncogenes, the genes that supposedly cause cancer. As soon as we identified them and treated cancer patients accordingly, cancer would become a thing of the past.

Fifty years later it’s clear that the War on Cancer has failed―despite what the cancer industry wants us to believe. New diagnoses have continued to climb; one in three people in the United States can now expect to battle cancer during their lifetime. For the majority of common cancers, the search for oncogenes has not changed the treatment: We’re still treating with the same old triad of removing (surgery), burning out (radiation), or poisoning (chemotherapy).

In Cancer & The New Biology Of Water, Dr. Cowan argues that this failure was inevitable because the oncogene theory is incorrect―or at least incomplete―and based on a flawed concept of biology in which DNA controls our cellular function and therefore our health. Instead, Dr. Cowan tells us, the somatic mutations seen in cancer cells are the result of a cellular deterioration that has little to do with oncogenes, DNA, or even the nucleus. The root cause is metabolic dysfunction that deteriorates the structured water that forms the basis of cytoplasmic―and therefore, cellular―health.

Despite mainstream medicine’s failure to bring an end to suffering or deliver on its promises, it remains illegal for physicians to prescribe anything other than the “standard of care” for their cancer patients―no matter how dangerous and ineffective that standard may be―and despite the fact that gentler, more effective, and more promising treatments exist. While Dr. Cowan acknowledges that all of these treatments need more research, Cancer and the New Biology of Water is an impassioned plea from a long-time physician that these promising treatments merit our attention and research dollars and that patients have the right to information, options, and medical freedom in matters of their own life and death.

Dr. Cowan, MD, is a veteran family physician who has studied and written about many subjects in medicine, including nutrition, homeopathy, anthroposophical medicine, and herbal medicine. He is the author of Human Heart, Cosmic Heart: A Doctor’s Quest to Understand, Treat, and Prevent Cardiovascular Disease and the new book Vaccines, Autoimmunity, and the Changing Nature of Childhood Illness from Chelsea Green Publishing. He is also a founding board member of the Weston A. Price Foundation, and a frequent lecturer throughout the US and Canada. He's also the same doctor I mentioned in this Joe Rogan episode when I talked about how your “heart is not a pump.” He also produces some of the most fantastic vegetable powders in existence, which I use every day: Dr. Thomas Cowan's vegetable powders.

He also published the fascinating article on my website entitled:

During this discussion, you'll discover:

-Whether or not the efficacy of chemotherapy has ever been studied [7:45]

  • President Nixon announced “War on Cancer” in 1971; promised it would be gone within 10 years
  • Early 1990s, German statistician Ulrich Abel announces 2.9% of stage 3&4 cancer patients see improvement with chemo
  • Early 2000s, Australian government commissions a study for all stages; Concluded that 2.3-2.4% show improvement
  • Decreased quality of life; marginally longer life expectancy in chemo patients

-Why a reduction in tumor size isn't always a good thing [12:00]

  • Any study not involving life expectancy is called a “surrogate study”
  • Reduction in size can result in a compromised immune system which perpetuates the need for chemo

-Dr. Cowan's thoughts on the current theories upon which modern cancer treatments are based [15:30]

  • “Oncogene” or “somatic mutation” theory came to light in 1971
    • Mutation in a somatic chromosome, which drives the cancer
  • Actual results: everyone has different somatic mutations
  • Biotech industry is based on finding problematic mutations, which are impossible to decipher
  • After 40 years of war on cancer, over 95% of treatment has nothing to do with the oncogene theory
  • Oncogenes are not the root cause of cancer when you get right down to it
  • Mutations are a consequence of an improperly functioning cell, not the cause of it
  • When you transfer the nuclei from a cancerous cell to a healthy cell, the healthy cell will not become cancerous; however, if you transfer the cytoplasm from a cancerous cell, the healthy cell will develop cancer

Dr. Gilbert Ling's contributions to current cancer treatments [25:00]

  • All cancers feel different (rock-like) compared to other tissue
  • Cells have a charge around them, and when two similarly charged cells come together, they keep their distance
  • Strength of the charge determines the density of the tissue (why different organs have different textures)
  • Halo of charges come from sodium/potassium gradient
  • Always start with the charge: walk barefoot, swim in the ocean, sunlight, expose to heat and cold, mineral water
  • Sodium/potassium pump is a myth
  • “The contents of the cytoplasm are structured water”

-The form of water while it's inside the cytoplasm [35:10]

  • It's gel-like, not the forms we usually think
  • It's a mesh that binds to the potassium in the cell, excludes the sodium, and maintains the sodium/potassium gradient
  • Structured water forms similar to Jello
  • ATP molecule acts as the heat that activates the gel (energy currency)
  • Watery matrix the DNA resides in is what determines which part of the DNA will be expressed
  • The DNA is an expression of an “idea” or a creator, and the “idea” is the water

-How the integrity of the DNA and cytoplasm is damaged, thus enabling cancer to form [43:15]

  • Cells lose charge, clump together, form a tumor
  • Aneuploidy: the presence of an abnormal number of chromosomes in a cell
  • Reversing the loss of charge, restoring the cell would be a more efficacious treatment for cancer than radiation, surgery, chemo, etc.
  • Cytoplasm is akin to the birth of Jesus Christ
  • Lourdes healing water (in France)

-Gerson Therapy, Quinton, and cancer treatment [50:15]

  • “The problem with cancer is the problem of sodium/potassium”
  • Created a juicer that extracts cytoplasm from fruits and veggies
  • Gerson's protocol was based on increasing potassium, reducing sodium
  • Rene Quinton's seawater (natural way of structuring water)
  • BGF Podcast w/ Robert Slovak
  • Quinton is a mineral-rich water put through a vortex

-The reason Dr. Cowan does not treat cancer patients in his practice [57:45]

-How plants and mushrooms are used to treat cancer [59:15]

  • Mistletoe is the most used, most successful natural treatment
  • To be injected subcutaneously
  • Mistletoe is not currently available in the U.S.

-Whether deuterium-depleted water could be an effective treatment for cancer [1:03:10]

  • Deuterium (D2O) interferes with the ability of mitochondria to generate ATP, and has different physical-chemical properties from water
  • Dr. Cowan is disappointed w/ the current state of deuterium-depleted water manufacturers
  • “If you have cancer, or might get cancer, you should drink deuterium-depleted water.”

-Whether oral or IV administration is optimal for Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD) [1:10:15]

-The value of electronic devices such as the Rife for treating cancer [1:13:30]

-How melatonin is used for cancer therapy [1:15:45]

-And much more…

  1. Luke says:

I have a question for either Ben or Dr. Cowan. Do you think that Cellion CE3 NADH is the best NAD supplement?
    Thanks very much

Re: “Deuterium (D2O) interferes with the ability of mitochondria to generate ATP, and has different physical-chemical properties from water

Dr. Cowan is disappointed w/ the current state of deuterium-depleted water manufacturers

“If you have cancer, or might get cancer, you should drink deuterium-depleted water.”

Response: Am I missing something here? If D2O interferes with the production of ATP, why would you then advocate it’s consumption?

    1. Thomas Cowan says:

Hi, DDW is low deuterium water, deuterium interferes with the ability to produce ATP therefore drinking DDW makes this beter.

    2. EVA says:

Duh! So that is why you need deterium DEPLETED water or water with less deterium.

  3. Ward says:

    Dr. Cowan,

How do you vortex your water? I am considering buying a magnetic stirrer but have seen the devices that just have a specifically shaped ‘funnel’ that vortexes it as well.

  4. Paul jackson says:

does taking mistletoe just to help the water body work taken orally

  5. amy says:

    Dr. Cowan,

If the cytoplasmic gel matrix is “metabolic water” — ie it mainly comes from the burning of carbs and fats…. how does drinking DDW seriously impact/improve the gel matrix? It makes sense that “drinking water” certainly plays some role in intracellular hydration but It seems that DDfoods would be more important. I would love you to hear your response. thank you.

    1. Tom Cowan says:

Hi. Both are relevant for decreasing overall level of deuterium, the water works faster and is the one that has been proven by studies

  6. Caleb says:

I have read where springs are a source of structured water, but what about well water? Is this also a source of structured water or is the composition different in spring water? Just a thought since we are on well water.

    Love the podcast awsome information.

    1. Thomas cowan says:

Hi, it probably depends on the particular well or spring as to the quality, there are no generalizations here that are valid.

    2. Tom cowan says:

Hi. Depends on the well and that particular water it would vary from place to place

  7. Do you have any thoughts on shungite or orgonite? Both have reported bold claims, but I have yet to find any information that is truely convincing. Although I still have them around the house just in case. People put shungite in their water to energize it and clean it. I wonder if this is a part of the equation. Or perhaps some other crystals could be used. Will be exciting to see more of this far out sort of thing get proven.

    1. Thomas Cowan says:

Hi, yes its interesting but hard to say for sure, maybe some day people will have this figured out. Personally i like and use both.

  8. Michael R Kramer says:

NADH instead of Tru Niagen or together? Not sure this was addressed

    1. Thomas Cowan says:

It’s NADH from Birkmayer, its found at humanheartcosmicheart.com

  9. Randy A Nadolny says:

Clicked on show notes for NADH. https://cellion.com/ comes up. is this the right stuff

    1. Glenn Thomas says:

i’m pretty sure this is what he was orginally talking about.

  10. greg white says:

This seems to be very focused on cancers where tumors are the primary culprit. I wonder how much of this applies to blood cancers (which, as I understand it, is one area where chemotherapy treatments have actually made a dramatic improvement in longevity).

  11. Steve says:

    HI Ben,

Phenomenal information. Crazy that hardly anyone knows about mistletoe.

Is Mistletoe only used in conjuction with Cnacer treatment?

Can the normal or predisposed indicidual to cancer take mistletoe preventatively?

    1. Thomas Cowan says:

There are a few other indications for mistletoe therapy like ulcerative colitis but the vast majority of its use is with cancer or cancer prevention

      1. Steve Stavrou says:

        Thank-you so much!

  12. Rob Johnston says:

    Dr Cowan,

Which NADH product on your website would be best for prostate hypertrophy?

    1. Thomas Cowan says:

Hi, i would probably use NADH Vision with this.

      1. Randy A Nadolny says:

link went to Cellion for NADH? That is where I ordered from. Is this the right stuff? I bought your book and have prostate cancer 3+4=7 and trying to use your method before i try something else medically

  13. Tim says:

Would you recommend the oral NADH over TruNiagen?

    1. Glenn Thomas says:

i’m taking TruNiagen right now. Looking into the NADH as well. From one article I was reading NAD+ and NADH are both forms of the coenzyme nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide. NAD+ is the oxidized form; NADH is the reduced form. Though I’m not sure if one is better than the other?

Ben and/or anyone else have any information one this?

      1. Roger says:

Would really like an answer about what is best for oral use. NAD+ or NADH?

  14. Joseph DeSantis says:

Dr. Cowan – Saw that you are responding to questions and hope you will answer mine.

I am confused by your description of the structured water residing the cytoplasm as affecting DNA expression.

    1. The DNA resides in the nucleus, not the cytoplasm.

    2. Gene expression, I thought, was impacted by the methyl groups attaching to the DNA to silence genes, and histones around which the DNA wraps to “hide” certain genes that aren’t needed for the specific type of cell. Methyl groups and histones are proteins.

So what is it about the structure of the water in the cytoplasm that is affecting the way that methyl groups and histones perform in the nucleus?

    Thank you.

    1. Thomas Cowan says:

Hi, it has now been shown that there is a small amount of structured water in the nucleus, exactly as the yin/yang symbol predicted (a small amount of DNA in the cytoplasm – in the mitochondria – and a small amount of water in the nucleus). Furthermore, researchers in Sweden have also shown that this water that surrounds the DNA is the primary reason for the 3D shape of the DNA. In other words, the water controls the expression of the DNA by unfolding certain segments of the DNA that then get expressed. Of this there is now no doubt

      1. Joseph G DeSantis says:

        Thank you.

  15. Kathy says:

I have heard that the curcumins in turmeric are poorly absorbed in the body. Several supplement companies claim to have specialized turmeric formulas that are more readily absorbed. What is your take on this?

    1. Mike says:

Apparently some of the claimed higher absorbtion is not for tthe effective part of the tumeric yes it is absorbed more efficiently etc but it is not the more effective part of the tumeric. I am not an expert on this just what I heard a so called expert say. So may be as effective to use normal tumeric as a whole food and a lot cheaper and simpler.

    1. It'll be posted soon!

  18. Roy says:

Thanks Ben for another fantastic podcast. I await the arrival of your book next year. A question for you and anyone else using oral NADH. We have https://cellion.com/products/ce-core-energy No mention of Birkmayer listed on the website and we have https://www.humanheartcosmicheart.com/products/nadh-rapid-energy. Dr Cowan recommending Dr. Birkmayer from personal experience. Has anyone in the audience had any success with one over the other?

  19. Roy says:

“This website is not available in your country.” When accessing helixor.com. I am in the Continental United States. hmmm starting to taste and smell like an authoritarian regime.

  20. Bobby says:

Curious if anyone has looked in to DDW’s affect on human stem cells? Wondering if the possible short-term benefits are offset by long-term decrease in stem cell proliferation/life span?

  21. Matthew Bellefontaine says:

I would love to hear more on the sodium potassium pump being a myth and where I can find more information on that.

    1. Thomas Cowan says:

Hi, read the books by Gilbert Ling and Mae Wan Ho, they are diffcult but worth the effort.

  22. jennifer says:

Could Dr. Cowan give the website where one can purchase Dr. Birkmayer’s NADH?

    Thank you.

    1. Thomas Cowan says:

      Hi, its humanheartcosmicheart.com. TC

      1. Chris F. Collins says:

Dr. Cowan, I understand one of the greatest costs involved in creating DDW is the energy costs involved. I am in the electricity infrastructure development business. I would be more than happy to lend my expertise to this endeavor.

  23. Greg Walker says:

Does taking mistletoe extract orally help at all?

    1. Thomas Cowan says:

      Yes, unfortunately it doesn’t.

      1. Marie says:

Could you please clarify? Your answer is “Yes (it helps), unfortunately it doesn’t.” So….. does it help or not?

        1. Thomas cowan says:

Sorry, i meant no it doesn’t work when taken orally.

  24. Bob says:

Question for Dr. Cowan. What’s wrong if you flex your biceps and the heart jumps?

    1. Thomas Cowan says:

Don’t know, haven’t heard of that.

  25. Stephen says:

What is the best form of water we should be drinking? I have the Aqua Tru and Active H2 tablets. How can I make my water D2O?

I was enjoying this podcast. It sounded intelligent and scientific. Then all of the sudden this Dr is comparing cells to Jesus, Mary and Joseph. What the F!!! What a pile of dog poo. I will never come back to your website or podcast. What a joke.

    1. Sharon Braun says:

Even without the gift of Faith you might be able to sense the archetypal significance of the figures Dr. Cowan references in his interview.
