From sucking in your stomach, to the problem with standing workstation to why Kegel exercises aren't all that great, my guest Katy Bowman author of the book “Move Your DNA” joins me in this podcast episode to introduce some very controversial thoughts on the way we move our bodies, including:

I agree that there is a difference between engaging the core a bit and "sucking it in". And presumably one is permitted to squeeze the pelvic floor when being intimate with their partner :) (though she didn't sound terribly impressed with Ben engaging his at the top of a deadlift, so maybe we aren't ever supposed to intentionally squeeze?)
That was my take away too.
I just wrote a post that all hype about core exercise can harm you. All we were taught about posture is another way to screw ourselves. As Katy says, sucking in our guts is a set up for problems. I've had women who couldn't get pregnant, getting pregnant after a few Rolfing sessions just because they relaxed their stomach.
I also fully agree it's more about moving than just exercising.
Keep breaking these old myths.
There is ” sucking your gut” and the. There is” lifting lightly your belly button in and up”- ugh-Ike in a yoga class. Big difference for your gut and your spine.
