Dr. David Minkoff and I go way back.

I first met this MD and 41 time Ironman triathlon finisher at the Half-Ironman World Championships in Florida six years ago, and interviewed him a few weeks later in the podcast episode “A Peek Into The Life of An Ironman, Natural Medicine Physician.

Then, he helped me with metal detoxification using a metal chelating spray he designed, and I interviewed him about this in the podcast “How Hidden Sources Of Heavy Metals Are Destroying Your Health, And What You Can Do About It.”

He also helped me with my son’s exercise induced asthma, which is now completely eliminated using the techniques Dr. Minkoff introduced me to in the podcast “Why More Kids Are Getting Exercise Induced Asthma, and What You Can Do About It.

And last month, we recorded “Amino Acids, BCAA’s, EAA’s, Ketosis, Bonking & More With 41 Time Ironman Triathlete Dr. David Minkoff. “.

Now Dr. Minkoff is back to talk about cancer. During our discussion, you’ll discover:

-The crazy story of why the voles around the Chernobyl radiation don't get cancer…

-How a cancer cell produces toxic amounts of lactic acid, and why modern cancer medicine doesn't fix this problem…

-Why we have been completely misled about why people actually get cancer, and why we're treating the cancer completely wrong…

-How to mitigate the damage that chemotherapy causes…

-Why you need to test your body's carbon dioxide levels, and how to do it…

-Why too much protein – especially from dairy sources – could be a big issue when it comes to cancer…

-The little-known water and blood ozonation methods Dr. Minkoff uses in his clinic, and how you can replicate the same effect in your own home…

-Dr. Minkoff's controversial thoughts on “Gerson therapy” for cancer…

-How you can personally decrease your chances of ever getting cancer…

-And much more…

  1. Dom says:

The inability to oxidize glucose is the cause of all these diseases. Keto doesn’t fix your metabolism

Producing high enough co2 via metabolism and the ability to retain it is associated with extreme longevity and is extremely protective from glycation and Carbon dioxide protects nerves and muscles against excessive excitation. It inhibits lactic acid formation, and lipid peroxidation (measured in the blood) can be completely suppressed by a pC02 of about 90 mm, which isn’t high enough to produce acidosis.it is also what preserves your stem cells

The whole idea of looking at sugar as the devil and should be avoided at all cost is just inappropriate and dangerous

    1. Arlene Patruno says:

Tell me more please. [email protected] thanks Arlene

  2. Donnie says:

***Hey Ben, thank you so much for all your insight. Unfortunately my wife was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer called a clear cell sarcoma. Would the use of an infrared / heat sauna spread cancer cells?

  3. Restrict glucose to a cancer cell/tumor and it will breakdown muscle and use glutamine as a fuel source.

  4. Megan Hantz says:

My introduction to the Gerson Therapy was the way I discovered my passion for health and healing and now I help people do the ketogenic diet, etc and I am working with someone who has cancer again. We have hyperbaric oxygen therapy in Yakima, Wa too which is great. I remember in another podcast where you interviewed your buddy Eric Remensperger and he was told by a Dr. why both keto and Gerson were effective–because they both depleted deuterium. (Interesting). I can’t believe Dr. Minkoff would just say that the Gerson Therapy “doesn’t work,” because I think there are some great strategies about it that we could still use because it emphasizes DETOXing the body so strongly in a number of ways and using coffee enemas to (supposedly) raise glutathione in the liver by 600-700%(?). The other thing I think is great about Gerson Therapy is that because it also limits animal protein, the aim is to free up the enzymes that would normally be able to break town tumor tissue, but is often times too busy having to break down excess animal protein.

Keto focuses on starving the cancer cells of glucose so the cells lose their a lot of their energy source and also protection, and ketones increasing oxygen to the cells exposing them to needed oxidation. Although the juices from the Gerson Therapy seem counterintuitive with raising glucose, the focus there is primarily on detoxing the body by flooding it with enzymes and vitamins/nutrients & I think I remember they say it is a way of oxygenating the tissues (?). They also use hydrogen peroxide on the skin, and tons of other things.

In my opinion, I think it would be smart to try to marry both methods (the best of Gerson & keto), like what Eric Remensperger seems to do, rather than just say Gerson doesn’t work, wouldn’t you agree? Very fascinating stuff, love it all.

  5. Shaun says:

Hi Ben, I know this podcast has been out quite a while now, hoever I do have a concern by a statement Dr Minkoff says around the 55 minute mark about they put a woman in the “secret” oxygenated water and because of all the oxygen absorbed she barely needed to breathe. Considering the urge to breathe is triggered due to CO2 buildup in the bloodstream and not anything to do with oxygen, this seems like both a false statement and also shows a basic lack of knowledge on how the human respiratory system works. Happy to be corrected if there is something I have missed.

    1. Here's a response from Dr Minkoff::

This is from Dr Robert Lyons, MD in Budapest, Hungary, at the Kaqun Clinic. You can get details at Kaqun.eu. According to Dr Lyons, when the patient was submerged in the very high dissolved oxygen of the baths, and using a snorkel for breathing, her rate of breathing slowed to about 4 beats per minute due to the high O2 content that entered her body via her skin.

      1. Samantha says:

        Hi Ben!

JUST discovered you and am new to listening to your podcasts! I was wondering what your thoughts are on Papillary Thyroid Cancer and if this info would apply to that type of cancer? I am about to get surgery to remove my thyroid and right lymph nodes and was just hoping to hear other opinions or more info on it. Thank you!

        1. You must, must, must read this book and listen to my upcoming podcast with the author: https://amzn.to/2iFIHTL

  6. CK says:

    Hey Ben,

Just getting around to listening to this podcast. In regards to different cancers responding to different types of nutritional therapies, I remember reading and hearing about Dr. Nicholas Gonzalez (referenced in Suzanne Somers books) in NY. He was treating folks with high doses of pancreatic enzymes and depending what type of cancer they had, varying nutritional therapies that could range from totally vegan to eating meat multiple times/day. Sadly, he passed away about a year ago but I do know he had written a few books. Perhaps that can give you a starting point for research. Thanks for the awesome podcast with Dr. Minkoff.

  7. Ivan Blazquez says:

Really awesome podcast. I’d think some form of fasting would be beneficial. Also, I think Dr. Fuhrman’s Nutritarian diet would be best for cancer prevention. Also, low-calorie, nutrient-dense diets I believe “naturally” reduce oxidation of macros via high antioxidant content. Not sure I agree with animal proteins for cancer prevention. Still much to learn, but really wonderful of you to do this great interview and you asked many really good questions. Thanks for the great podcast. It’s got me thinking and interested in learning more on this topic.

  8. Horatio says:

Great job with this podcast Ben. I don’t know how you have the time to keep up with all of this as I cannot even keep up with the info revealed in these. I’m looking forward to your article on ozone therapy as I read much conflicting info on this including how it’s damaging to mucus membranes, which includes significantly the lungs. Home production of liposomal vit c is another area I hope you find a legitimate expert on. It’s still a voodoo practice according to many.

    Thanks for the work.

  9. Charles Jones says:

Just received my first shipment of Kaqun water. On you tube interviews Dr Minkoff discusses working up to consumption of ounces daily of Kaqun water. How many ounces a day should I start off drinking?

    1. Here's the details from the flyer they send out:
How much KAQUN water should I drink each day?

Especially for those with chronic conditions, the ingestion of the highly

oxygenated KAQUN water can lead to temporary cleansing reactions. For this

reason, we recommend working up to full amounts on a graduated schedule, as

      follows:

      • Days 1 through 3 – 60 ml (2 oz) once each day

      • Days 4 and 5 – 60 ml (2 oz) twice each day

      • Days 6 and 7 – 60 ml (2 oz) three times each day

      • Days 8 and 9 – 90 ml (3 oz) three times each day

      • Day 10 and after – increase daily amount by 60 ml (2 oz) per day until at

      the full amount

If you experience a cleansing reaction, simply reduce your daily amount to the

level at which you felt fine, and stay there until the symptoms pass. Then

continue to increase your daily amount on the above graduated schedule until

      you reach the following levels:

      • To preserve health: 0.5 liter (17 oz)

      • In case of chronic illnesses: 0.75–1 liter (26–34 oz)

      • In case of excessive mental burden: 1 liter (34 oz)

      • In case of a weak immune system: 1–1.5 liters (34–51 oz)

      • For athletes: 1.5–2 liters (51–68 oz)

      • For children and pregnant and nursing mothers: 0.2–0.5 liter (7–17 oz)

When should I drink KAQUN water?

For the quickest absorption into your system, it’s best to drink on an empty

stomach, at least 1⁄2 hour before meals or 2 hours after meals. The most

effective is to drink 200 ml (about 7 oz) of KAQUN water before meals on an

empty stomach in the morning and to consume the remaining amount

distributed during the day. KAQUN water can be used for taking supplements.

Due to its refreshing, activating effect it is not recommended to be consumed in

      hours in the evening.

Can I simply replace my intake of normal drinking water with KAQUN

      water?

No, KAQUN water is not a replacement for regular drinking water. It is recommended that you

accompany your consumption of KAQUN water with at least the same quantity (or more)

drinking water. For example, if you drink a liter of KAQUN water in a day, you should also

drink at least a liter of drinking water (or more).

How do I store my KAQUN water?

KAQUN water should be stored in a cool, dry place and out of direct sunlight. It should not be

boiled or frozen since this can result in a loss of its high oxygen content. It is recommended to

keep your bottles of KAQUN water away from electronics, cell phones, and Wi-Fi devices.

How long will my KAQUN water last?

The water will last a minimum of 12 months from the bottling date, which is reflected in the

expiration date printed on each bottle. Please note when ordering KAQUN products

that the expiration date is in a European format (e.g., day/month/year). For

example, an expiration of June 20, 2015 would show on the bottle as 20/06/2015.

Great episode! Did you see the study where common antibiotics disrupted the mitochondria of cancer cells and stopped the growth of tumors in multiple forms of cancer. Check this study out:

Keep up the great work! Love the show.

  11. Brad says:

I came looking for a new Health&Fitness podcast, and thanks to this article I know to avoid yours like the plague. If you surround yourself with Quacks that promote ineffective and dangerous procedures like Gerson Therapy (Not Gerston) then I can’t trust anything you say, no matter how ripped you are.

Please do yourself a favour and spend a few hours on Wikipedia. This seems like an appropriate place to start:

  12. Wow! Great podcast Ben! Thank you!

  13. Jenny says:

    Ben,

If you had cancer, would you get chemo treatments? Would you consider writing an article re: what you would do if you or your wife got cancer? I think it would be so challenging to have a cancer diagnosis and then have to make a decision re: whether or not to have chemo or try other treatments, especially at a very emotional and scary time. I have a friend being treated (chemo) for breast cancer. It is hard to make the right decisions when almost all cancer doctors promote chemo.

    1. I would not get chemo. I would use ketosis, Gerston, oxidative therapy, and a host of other protocols we discussed here that are also that I linked to above.

  14. Beuss says:

It seems that the rational behind the hyperbaric therapy and ozone therapy is to increase the oxygen concentration in the blood. As we know, hypobaric training such as in high altitude promotes red blood cell increase. So it would seem legit that these treatments (hyperbaric/ozone) would trigger red blood cell decrease. Which could be problematic, for example for endurance athletes.

    Any thoughts on that?

    1. Here's a response from Dr Minkoff: These treatments are not long in duration and stimulate mitochondrial repair and improved function. They do not lead to lowered red cell mass or detraining. You can use them together with high altitude training.

  15. Neil says:

So what does Dr Minkoff eat during his IM races, surely he doesn’t just consume aminos? Thanks

  16. Tony says:

    Hey Ben,

    A couple of things:

This latest podcast on cancer is (in my mind) the podcast of the year! Loved it!

Regarding which cancer cells are less affected by nutritional ketosis: I did a lot of research when my 6-year old niece was diagnosed with leukemia last year. There is very little info out there, but from what I could gather, most types will respond to low glucose availability, but some (eg lymphoma) won’t.

“research linking diabetes to liver, pancreatic, endometrial, colorectal, breast and bladder cancers. Also of interest is that metformin, a common medication used to reduce insulin resistance in people with diabetes, is being studied, for its potential benefit as a cancer therapy.”

  17. Michelle says:

This was a really interesting podcast. I had to return to nightshift for about 6 months at a new job as an RN. Besides being tired and crabby all the time, what I noticed the most was my lack of exercise tolerance. I have worked out my whole life (I’m 51), I’ve run marathons, biked centuries, etc. During this period of working full time nights, I would go to the gym, or go for a run, and I would get half way through my workout and would not be able to get through it. I was so exhausted and worn out, and I generally had to take naps after workouts to get through the day. I thought it was in my head (related to my bad attitude re: working nights), but apparently my body was not able to utilize the oxygen and probably not producing enough CO2. Really interesting and good to know! Thank you!

  18. Robin Maisel says:

I’m confused about the use of Perfect Aminos with regards to fasting as well as part of one’s macronutrient profile. .

1.When doing IF, eating only from 12-8, wouldn’t these technically break the fast if taken in the A. M. ? Since each pill is pretty much a gram of protein, wouldn’t I then ingesting proteins in the morning when I don’t wanted to be interesting anything except for fats?

    2. IF i follow a modified Atkins ketogenic diet, high-fat, moderate protein, I ingest about 45 g protein/ day. If I took 10 pills/day, that only gives me about 35 g of protein to eat during the day in the form of food. That’s not a lot and I imagine it would leave me feeling pretty hungry.

    Would love some clarification!

    1. NatureAminos should not interfere with IF, as they are pre-digested and dissolve in the upper GI within 23 minutes, into the blood stream.

As for the 45 grams of protein, you should look at the AAU (Amino Acid Utilization) chart. 1 gram of NatureAminos is 99% utilized as opposed to only 16% of whey, 32% from meat, chicken & fish or 48% from eggs.

  19. Alleyn says:

You mentioned people with root canals will have a hard time fighting disease and cancer. Do you recommend something specific to do if you are in that situation?

    1. See a certified biological dentist or a dentist that can do a cone beam scan of your teeth. If there is an abscess, no matter how small, these teeth are infected and not good.

  20. Chuck Hazzard says:

This may be a silly question, but would a Pulse Oximeter reflect changes in oxygenation after drinking something like Kaqun water?

    1. Michelle says:

As a nurse, I would say no. If you are a healthy individual, your O2 sats are going to be between 90-100% regardless. Kaqun water is not going to change that. Plus you can have adequate oxygenation but poor ventilation. You can give someone 100% FIO2, and their oxygen sats will reflect that (they’ll be sat’ing 100%) but they could still be in respiratory distress because they are not ventilating…..their cells are unable to utilize the circulating o2

    2. No, but if you put an oxygen sensor on the skin, it will pulse ox is hemoglobin saturation, not oxygen tissue level.

      1. Orsolya says:

From the Transcript: Dr. Minkoff sad: “This oxygen is in a liquid form and when you drink it within about 6-8 minutes your oxygen level in your blood and in your tissues goes up.”

  21. jeff Leonard says:

In this podcast they talk about ozone therapy for healing and helping very severe infections.
    https://www.bulletproofexec.com/dr-robert-rowen-t…
What are your thoughts on IV/Rectal Ozone therapy? I had plantar fasciitis, prolozone took away the condition.

    Great Podcast, Thanks Ben

    1. IV and Rectal Ozone therapy are very good therapies if delivered by health professionals that are fully trained in their use. See <a href="http://www.aaot.us” target=”_blank”>www.aaot.us for more info and for doctor information.

  22. Preston Hall says:

Which Water ozonator would you purchase Ben?

  23. Hi Ben,

The theory is coherent but I believe the application is not.

I think we are blaming sugar just like cholesterol (which just happens to be there and get oxidized).

The problem is not sugar but the inability of mitocondria to use it so the krebs cycle and oxidative phosphorilation are NOT optimized. Glucose is only “half-used” by glycolisis so the body starts accumlating lactic acid and creating less CO2 and water.

What is needed is to fix mitocondria not to blame it on sugar and go ketogenic. Sugar is not the issue mitocondria is. Avoiding sugar is like using cholesterol lowering drugs (treating the sumptom not the cause). It is the same approach in my opinion. Let´s fix mitocondria instead and let glucose do its job.

    Great podcast Ben!

Wow, was lit up by hearing about this liquid stable oxygen product. Dunno how Kinqun does it, but I did find this nutshell description of the basic method

  26. Will the wellness FX test reveal deficiencies that can be addressed for improvement through health choice or supplementation?

    1. Yes, it will help.

  27. Mike says:

The Kaqun water is that a little bit like doping?

    1. It's legal doping, yes.

  28. Hi Ben,

The problem is not sugar but the inability of mitocondria to use it so the krebs cycle and oxidative phosphorilation are optimized. Glucose is only “half-used” by glycolisis and converted creating more lactic acid.

    Great podcast Ben!

  29. Rob says:

Hi Ben & Dr.Minkoff, I love the podcast of you two as always. I have 2 qs.

    1. Could you please give me the basic of why low CO2 (lets say it’s blood test) is bad? I ‘d normally think that the lower CO2 the better, as it’s like a waste product of respiration (the less waste we have in our body the better?). How could you know if one with low CO2 is not having proper mitochondrial/ATP generating function or just very good at clearing it?

    2. Talking about measuring spilled nitrogen in the urine, is that what’s called urine nitrogen balance test? If so, I remember you just posted (in news flashes some weeks ago) some recent study using a newer method and finding higher protein requirement? In this case, would it still be accurate to use nitrogen balance to determine the utilization efficiency of the amino acids found in food?

Thank you so much guys :)

    1. Usually low CO2 means there is acidosis in the body. It can come from many different things, including dehydration, but its never good. It means there's too much acid being produced in the body and not getting out.

    2. It's a nitrogen balance study – how much in (from dietary protein) vs amount urinated out. To do it properly someone must be in nitrogen balance before you start. If you look on Dr Minkoff's website it is fully explained under amino acid utilization.

  30. Boris Miljkovic says:

Wow! This podcast was just amazing. Thank you!!
