In my response, I recommend:
Rumble Roller

Meg says: She's an active ironman triathlete and has corns but she feels like she's way too young for them. What causes them and what should she do about them? Is there any other way to get rid of them except surgery?

Ask Ben a Podcast Question

20 thoughts on “347: A Potent New Fat Loss Workout, Why Ben Eats Bread, 5 Things You Must Know About Nutrition & More!

  1. Derek says:

For the HIIT interval, isn’t it a bit hard to get your heart rate in the 60 % zone after 7 or 8 sprints?? wouldn’t it be better to gage the rest period based off your heart rate?? or is that the idea? getting more aerobic? seems kind of against the point of a HIIT workout… any thoughts?

    1. You alternate between anaerobic and aerobic for a workout like this…

      1. Derek says:

        hey Ben,

I was researching a bit and found a solution, Alywn Cosgrove recommends using a heart monitor and going to 85% then resting until it reaches 65%. and it would be faster recovering the first few Intervals, and then progressively the rest periods will be slower. This seems ideal for the nervous system. I would love to know what you thought about this, any thoughts or comments??

        1. That's classic interval training. I 100% agree/

  2. David Stone says:

Hi Ben. I started doing the interval bike workout. It is amazing. I’m two days in and cannot believe how hard it is. I am seeing results already. Rock on man!

  3. Tom C says:

Ben – Thanks for reporting on the HIIT study and providing a link to it. Unfortunately, there is no exercise I despise more than riding a bike. Do you think the results would be similar by sprinting on a treadmill or outside?

    1. Yes, that or an elliptical trainer.

      1. David Stone says:

Rower as well! Put it on level 8 or so. 10 would be too hard on the C2.

  4. Luis Enrique says:

Scratch the brown outside part of the avocado seed, with a knife or a cheese shredder, that way it won’t change of color to orange, and you get ride out of most of it bitterness.

  5. Matt says:

Hey Ben! I’ve been wondering about the avocado seed. Now I’m just going to throw it in the smoothie as well. I have a question about eggs. I know your a big egg eater, but how do you feel about egg based protein powders? I’m not quite sure what to think about them.

    Thanks,

    Matt

    1. I'd highly recommend you get an immunoglobulin test FIRST because there can be some serious allergenic issues there

      1. Matt says:

Before I eat eggs? Or before I use an egg based powder? I wasn’t planning on using a powder before I got your thoughts. If I have no allergenic issues are they a good option? If so, what’s a good brand?

        Thanks,

        Matt

        1. I don't have a good brand off the top of my head but I would suggest checking this out: https://bengreenfieldfitness.com/2012/01/how-t…

  6. Cynthia says:

In addition to your foam rolling tips, and Dan’s trigger point dry needling tips (it really works!), another modality that is awesome for breaking up the adhesions between the ITB and the vastus lateralis, is cupping. Hurts like crazy, but it is very effective.

  7. Dan O'Grady says:

Trigger point dry needling to the TFL is very effective for chronic unresponsive ITB pain. Very common in runners, cyclists, hikers and those that sit and drive a lot.

    1. Ultraswami says:

You mispoke, I believe you mean ashi needling, done by an acupuncturist. A knowledgeable orthopedic acupuncturist has over 1,000 hours of needling training, compared to a PT with a weekend class totaling 50 hours at best. Please stop trying to rebrand a 3,000 plus year old system of medicine. Your putting the public at risk, and undermining the extensive education acupuncturists go through.

  8. Tom says:

Store your avocado in an air tight container with a bit of chopped onion. Stops it going brown compeletely for a good 24-48 hours :)
