At last year's Biohackers’ Summit in London, I met an intriguing 65 year old man named Veli-Jussi Jalkanen.
This guy goes by the nickname “Vessi”, and he is one of the most physically talented older men I've ever met in my life. He competes in several sports on a national and competitive level, including shooting, military 3-skill sport, diving and sprinting. He also rides horses, plays tennis both left-handed and right-handed, swims, skis, skin-dives, walks extremely long distances and swing dances. The guy can crank out 25 pullups, speaks multiple languages, owns several multinational corporations and looks like he's about 40 years old.
Vessi's primary business is the Finnish company “Salli Systems” which develops ergonomically friendly furniture based on some very unique sitting concepts, like his “Salli Saddle Chair” (a unique seat modeled after horse-riding techniques) and electrically adjustable tables with elbow and wrist support.
During our discussion, you'll discover:
-Why Vessi only spends about 10% of his day in a standing position, and what he does the rest of the time…[7:45]
-How a desk can automatically detect whether you're typing or reading…[8:50]
-How a saddle chair allows you to sit but “fools” your body into thinking you are standing…[10:50]
-Why clothing is an unfriendly nuisance to your body (and the sitting-friendly clothing that Vessi uses)…[16:30]
-How Vessi gets away with not wearing underwear all day long…[18:45]
-Why you really don't need a backrest behind your chair…[23:10]
-How Vessi taught himself to play tennis with both his right and left hands…[27:20]
-The 6 toys that Vessi keeps in his office to stay fit…[35:30]
-Why Vessi eats so many berries, and only one specific type of grain…[43:00]
-How Vessi healed himself of osteoarthritis…[50:25]
-And much more!

Do you have questions, comments or feedback for Veli or me? Leave your thoughts below and one of us will reply!
FYI last three links aren’t working for me? It could be me but in case it isn’t I thought I would let you know.
Thanks for all you do!
Seems the documents have been deleted, I'll look into it.
The saddle chair idea is quite interesting actually. Reminds me of the kneeling stool that was introduced in the 70s, and making a comeback now. I don’t think there’s one chair that fits all, but I’d be interested in trying out the saddle chair.
Ben, how was your performance in tennis during ketosis? Did you add any carbs around it?
This is a good primer on geopathic stress which is what the speaker was referring to when speaking about his bedroom.

Check this out for the Gramicci “gusseted crotch design” pants and shorts that were designed by a rock climber:

Maybe not identical but the design certainly does open up the crotch area.
Hi Ben,
Excellent episode, jut wanted to say that i’m seating on a fitball all day and it’s great.
I include some exercises during the day and no back pain! some of my friends also seat on the fitball because of me :)
anyway, love your podcast !
You’r biggest fan from Israel !
Stas
Ben or anyone, i am looking for a sweat proof bluetooth head set for outside work and play/ workout but only want 1 ear, call me cook but i have to keep one ear open to my surroundings. Any recommendations?
Since my dad passed this summer have to share his classic bidet line..
Grew up in Amsterdam and yes we had bidets in the bathroom…
Whenever we had friends or business partners of my dad from the U.S visiting ,
They would get a tour of the house , notice the bidet and often say “oh what’s that for ..”..To wash the baby in?”
Dad’s answer… “No that’s to wash the baby out” hahahahaha….
Ben, would love to hear what supplements he takes for eyesight! Hope you’re able to find out and post?
I’d be really curious to know more about the supplements that Veli is using. As a 49 year old it’s really nice to hear from older people who have experimented with supplements, diet, etc. In particular the eyesight supplements, joint health, etc. There were a lot of tools alluded to but not followed up in the podcast.
I shall have my list of supplements outposted to Ben, also the health spices and my smoothie. Vessi
I would love to hear more about the supplements he takes.
Good Podcast as always and nice to see fellow country man on the show. The website for his land is:
http://sahalankartano.fi/
since Ben didn’t catch that one.
Is it possible to get Veli Jussi to confirm the exact ingredients for his smoothie?
What was the Bullbar he was refering to?
I believe that he is referring to frequencies caused by the water veins within the ground. Europeans have have a far greater concern about EMF then Americans do. I have personally found a company called Memon that attempts to reduce the effects of these frequencies. They have various products to assist reducing the affects of many different types of radiation.
Its Bullworker. A popular gym tool in the past.
I guess we can add “bidet” to that list of words that Ben has read in print but never heard! ????
THIS INFORMATION IS HERE.

Did he send you a link to the journal article/research mentioned? He said he’d find an English version…
when you live with your butt clean (just learn to wash after toileting) , you get so much more comfort and confidence, less itching, better anal health and smaller danger to get infected of super bacteria trough anal..
I think he was referring to geopathic stress.
There is English summary
And my kids thought I was nuts!
The radiation he was probably talking about is called RADON.
The anti-aging concepts you and Veli discussed are contrary to the evidenced-based Blue Zone lifestyle.
I also built a treadmill workstation and easily get in 8+ miles per day without the up and down silliness – a gimmick to differentiate his product.
