What I Think About Ozempic (& Natural Alternatives to GLP-1 Agonists)

On a quest to become bigger, stronger, sexier, and faster as you age, and you've already adopted smart strategies like weightlifting, protein-rich nutrition, all-day low-intensity activity, and steering clear of inflammatory foods?

Peptides can be a valuable addition to your toolkit. Hollywood celebrities, Silicon Valley entrepreneurs, fashion models, and increasingly what seems like half your neighborhood are now taking these drugs in vast quantities. This is because they're one of the smartest hacks for simultaneously building muscle and shedding fat, which is usually no easy feat. 

Peptides, typically administered orally, through injections, or intranasally, are short chains of amino acids that have garnered significant attention in medical research, particularly in fields like hormone replacement therapy, immunology, and drug development.

One of the most renowned categories of peptides is GLP-1 agonists, such as semaglutide (Ozempic® and Wegovy®) and liraglutide (Victoza® and Saxenda®). These peptides, initially designed as diabetes drugs, mimic the effects of glucagon-like peptide-1, a hormone released when you eat. They stimulate insulin release, inhibit glucagon release, slow down gastric motility, and enhance satiety.

So, do these peptides work for losing weight?

Absolutely, and probably more effectively than just about any weight loss drug that has ever been developed.

Out of all the weight loss drugs the industry has pushed, tested, and tried, the GLP-1 agonists actually help people lose weight at rates of up to 15% body fat loss over a couple of years, compared to just 2% loss in placebos. Moreover, these peptides can lower blood pressure, reduce cardiovascular risks, and improve blood sugar balance.

However, there are downsides to these weight loss drugs, including the need for long-term use, potential adipogenesis (the creation of new fat cells), and side effects like nausea, diarrhea, and muscle loss once you stop taking them. For example, journalist Tucker Carlson has shed light on the pharmaceutical industry's push to profit from these drugs and their questionable long-term safety data.

But fear not, there are natural ways to stimulate GLP-1, like probiotics, fasting, exercise, and newer supplements with good research behind them, such as one I've been trying called “Calocurb,” which can reduce hunger by up to 30% and considerably lower calorie intake. Calocurb seems to really crush carb cravings and acts very similar to Ozempic, without the side effects.

In addition, there are also alternative weight loss peptides and peptide stacks that come with fewer side effects while still supporting lean muscle gain.

My favorites include IGF-1 LR3, Ipamorelin, CJC-1295, Tesamorelin, and 5 Amino-1MQ. Let's break these down:

  • IGF-1 LR3 stimulates muscle growth, while Ipamorelin safely boosts growth hormone secretion.
  • CJC-1295, especially without DAC, mirrors natural growth hormone pulses and aids in fat loss and muscle protein synthesis.
  • Tesamorelin reduces visceral fat and triglyceride levels.
  • Ipamorelin, a potent muscle-building peptide, has major effects on skeletal muscle and function.
  • 5 Amino-1MQ blocks an enzyme associated with obesity and fat storage, promoting weight loss and providing clean energy.

Here are dosing guidelines to get you started:

  • IGF-1 LR3: 50–150mcg 1x/day for a 4-week cycle, usually via subcutaneous injection, preferably pre-workout or with your first-morning meal.
  • CJC-1295: 100mcg 1–3x/day for a 12-week cycle, preferably taken before sleep on an empty stomach.
  • Tesamorelin: 1mg 1–2x/day for five days per week, for a 12-week cycle, preferably pre-workout or with your first-morning meal.
  • Ipamorelin: 100-500mcg 1–3x/day for a 12-week cycle. For muscle gain and fat loss, I’ve experienced the best results using it before bedtime on an empty stomach.
  • 5 Amino-1MQ: One capsule taken by mouth per day in the morning. Take it for two days on, two days off for a total of 8–10 weeks.

To supercharge fat loss and lean muscle gain, consider running 12-week cycles of the peptides listed above throughout the year five days on, two days off, while maintaining a consistent weight training routine, adequate protein intake, and an active lifestyle.
