The Latest Research On How to Live to 100—Key Longevity Strategies That *Actually* Work 🧬💪🧠

Picture yourself at 100—vibrant, energetic, and playing with your great-grandchildren, embracing every moment with joy. But with the average lifespan of U.S. citizens only reaching 77, it's hard to imagine, isn't it?

The good news is that recent research is now shedding light on lifestyle factors that contribute to health and longevity. In a comprehensive study of 5,222 older adults with an average age of 94, several key behaviors associated with becoming a centenarian were identified.

The study found that never smoking, maintaining a regular exercise routine, and enjoying a diverse diet were strongly linked to reaching this milestone. 

Interestingly, factors such as alcohol consumption and body mass index (BMI) did not show significant associations with longevity in this analysis, nor did location or marital status.

Blood sugar control is believed to be one vital aspect of healthy aging. Recent research has uncovered that strength training—especially low load with high repetitions—outperforms continuous aerobic exercise when it comes to managing blood glucose levels and promoting metabolic health.

Additionally, for those dealing with diabetes, a “5:2” fasting regimen, which involves fasting two days each week, has shown potential to be more effective than certain pharmaceutical treatments for managing blood glucose levels, such as metformin and empagliflozin.

These insights into centenarian longevity and effective blood sugar management underscore the power of strategic lifestyle choices. By focusing on never smoking, staying active, eating a varied diet, and incorporating strength training and intermittent fasting into your routine, you can significantly enhance your chances of thriving well into your later years.
