In this weekly post, I share with you my most interesting discoveries of the week, including the latest news on the fronts of fitness, nutrition, health, wellness, biohacking, and anti-aging research. New Discoveries

Struggling with Stubborn Tightness in Your Psoas, Lower Back, and Shoulders? *Here's* How I Melt Bodily Pain Away 

Do you struggle with low back pain, hip tightness, constipation, shoulder immobility, or a generally “tight” body? 

I've got a move for you that's an absolute body melter—one that I personally throw into my morning warm-up routine one to two times per week to help with mobility, performance, and recovery.

You can do this move with almost any round deep tissue massage device, but my favorite is a vibrating massage ball, like the Hyperice Hypersphere (you can use code benboots to save 15 percent off). You can adjust the intensity of this warm-up by choosing to keep the vibration setting on or off—it's totally up to you.

Here's how I do it, starting on one side of the body and then repeating on the other:

  • As you can see in my video below, I perform this routine by first getting down on the floor and placing the ball under my butt. I roll slightly back and forth right on the top of the ball so it hits the spot where I'm tight. 
  • After about 20 seconds of focusing on this spot (remember to breathe!), I move the ball toward my outer hip, turn my body to the side, and use my leg to basically floss back and forth over the ball.
  • Next, the ball moves to my psoas. I get on top of the ball (in a “frog pose,” if you're familiar with the yoga pose) and slowly rock over the ball so it traces up and down my psoas. I hang here for about 20–30 seconds and breathe deeply.
  • From here, I move onto my back and place the ball under my tailbone so that I'm sitting right on top of it. Then I use my feet to roll the ball up my back—all the way to my shoulder complex. I let the ball stay pinned in between my shoulders, just below my neck, for a few seconds, then bring it back down my back to my tailbone.

For the best results, I recommend repeating this whole process three times on each side. If you can make it through three sessions on each side of your body, you'll see that your core, back, and psoas feel like they're “melting” as your whole body becomes primed—especially if you keep the vibration on.

Cracking the Code on Beef Wellington: How I *Conquered* One of the Kitchen's Toughest Dishes (It’s Easier Than You Think!)

Ever since I spent a year binge-watching Gordon Ramsay's MasterChef (nearly a decade ago!), I've had the idea of learning to make Beef Wellington on my bucket list, considering it's one of the most decadent yet intimidating roast beef recipes in culinary existence.

This week, I finally got my hands on a beautiful grass-fed Beef Wellington roast from US Wellness Meats, making my dream come true.

Ben Greenfield Beef WellingtonAs you probably know if you've read either of my cookbooks, I'm prone to make a few substitutions—in this case, namely:

  • Adding real vanilla flavoring and Jack Daniel's whisky to the mushroom duxelles for extra flavor and a redneck touch.
  • Substituting sliced and butter-fried US Wellness Meats Liverwurst for the foie gras to add extra nutrients from grass-fed beef trim (50%), liver (20%), heart (15%), and kidney (15%).
  • Using A2 for the heavy cream, a style of dairy with a less inflammatory protein.

I must say that A) Although intimidating, this dish is NOT as difficult as I anticipated.

And B) It’s probably one of my top three proudest culinary moments of all time (alongside frying up the backstrap of the first deer I shot and baking my first spearfished snapper).
