Hi Ben, love your podcasts. I have a couple questions:
    – You talk a lot about ombilical & placenta stem cells. As a parent who was lucky enough to have a doula who told us about the benefits of consuming my placenta (we are the only mammal that doesn’t) and to refrain from cutting the ombilical cord too early so that most of the stem cells make it to the mother’s body where they belong, I’m often wondering about the ethical/moral aspect in the business of stem cells. Are the parents told that the cord/placenta are going to be sold by the hospital for a profit? That they contain healthy stem cells that would be frozen and benefit their family? Or are they simply stolen from them while they are conveniently maintained uninformed? Per my understanding, there is no transparency in this business, and I strongly feel that it’s an important ethical conversation to open to the public.
    – You often mention books you give you sons to read. As an Unschooling mom of a boy who seems to have a similar age as yours (15), I would love it if you shared a list of the books you’ve felt have been influential reads for them and that the’ve responded to with passion and/or enthusiasm.
    Thanks!

Oops, I meant until they make it to the newborn baby’s body, to whom they belong. I just had diner with my doula extraordinaire, who remind me of the details: About 5 minutes before cutting the ombilical cord, or simply wait until the cord stops pulsating – at which point it become white. This stem cells rich blood allows the baby’s brain as well as all the other vital organs to develop optimally.
Some people choose to wait longer to cut it (which can go as far as 7 days in the case of Lotus Births), but she said it’s not really necessary.
