New Discoveries Of The Week: Cool New Things I'm Trying, Books I'm Reading, And More!

Sharpen Up Your Kitchen Knife Game With The Sickest Knife I've Ever Owned

I'm not a chef. In fact, I have zero formal training in cooking and most of my culinary education has involved watching YouTube videos. That being said, I got to know my way around the kitchen pretty well when I was writing my Boundless Cookbook—and I've also learned to really love cooking.

Since my wife Jessa is, unlike me, a natural and skilled cook, our kitchen is pretty well-stocked with tools and gear. There are a few things in there that I pick up daily, and if I had to pick my top kitchen tool it would probably be a good knife.

Recently, I was introduced to Artisan Revere knives, and let me tell you, I wish I'd had their chef's knife on hand while I was working on the cookbook. It's a seriously top-of-the-line piece of functional craftsmanship.

The folks over at Artisan Revere have steel and research backgrounds, and before they made their chef’s knife, they surveyed over 1,200 home cooks, professional chefs, and custom knifemakers for their feedback.

The chef's knife is incredibly sharp and thin, thanks to the blades being made with a cutting-edge (hah) super steel. In knife geek parlance, it’s “fast” and flies through food. But I'm into this knife for more than just how well it cuts. I've never paid much attention to comfort before, but I realize now that no handle-to-grip transition has even come close to feeling “right” until using this knife—it gives me room to choke up and I feel like my hand can breathe. The result is that I can do long meal prep sessions and my hand doesn’t get tired because my grip is so relaxed. The recurve at the back of the blade also makes the knife safer, because you won’t cut yourself on a squared-off heel.

This company also takes customer service to the next level. Artisan Revere’s founder, Dave Olkovetsky, gives his cell phone to every single customer and makes himself available to answer any and all questions. Also, you get 100 days to try the knives, and if you decide they're not the greatest you've ever owned, you can send them back for a 100%, no questions asked refund.

My Latest Healthy, Fresh-Harvested Feast (Ever Heard Of Chicken Mushrooms?)

Although we're nearing the end of farmer's market season here in the Inland Northwest, there's still plenty of fresh-harvested goodness to be had. This past weekend, my sons River and Terran and I swung by the Spokane Farmer's Market and snagged a pound of lovely “fried chicken mushrooms” and a variety of locally grown gold, purple, and red potatoes.

Armed with four filets of beautiful salmon (use code BENGREENFIELD20 to save $20), I proceeded to cook us up an evening meal that is truly reflective of a healthy Northwest feast…

…fried chicken mushrooms baked in olive oil, salt, and dill, with a touch of red onion…

…fried-baked potatoes slathered in coconut oil, cinnamon, sea salt, and cayenne…

…broiled salmon with olive oil, dill, and black pepper…

…and a fresh bed of arugula and butter lettuce topped with garden-grown tomatoes and local goat cheese. (Of course, I used my new Artisan Revere knives for the meal preparation.)

So dinner was pretty good. Soon I'll need to write another cookbook, but in the meantime, get my latest one here.

I Want To Know What You've Got Cooking

I'm so stoked about the positive feedback I've been getting about my new Boundless Cookbook. The cookbook was a labor of love, but I'm really proud of the end result (especially considering I'm definitely not a trained chef).

Now that the Boundless Cookbook is available on Amazon, I have a favor to ask…

If you have the cookbook and you love it, can you hop on over to Amazon and leave a review? Amazon reviews—as I bet you know—are super important. I want your honest feedback and I'll be reading them to hear what you think.

You can leave your review on Amazon right here (and if you don't have a cookbook yet, and you're an Amazon Prime member, you could have your copy at your doorstep as early as tomorrow).
